I have an online friend I've been really close to for about 3 years. We've known each other for 5 years, but only really started getting close in the last 3. We have been really affectionate, and have exchanged many gifts, spent countless hours with each other, and watched movies online. To make a long story short, I had asked my friend to let me know if they were going to be gone for a while, and not to just vanish on me online. They promised they would, repeatedly. About 3 months ago, my friend vanished again, without a word. I was really hurt, and one night while I was drunk, I wound up deleting them on Steam (a social gaming network site). I immediately regretted it the next day, and sent another invite. My friend wound up coming back online about a week and a half ago, but she didn't accept my Steam invite. I saw her on Skype, tried to talk to her, and she wound up going offline on me. So it's been a week and a half, and still no contact. For a week, I was upset and left her a number of messages on Skype, but she hasn't responded to them. I haven't left any further messages for the past few days, but it's been like 9 days and I'm distraught. We've had petty arguments in the past, but we've always forgiven each other, and she's never given me the cold shoulder like this. What I don't understand is that if she wanted to sever contact with me, why hasn't she deleted me on Skype, Facebook, and deleted my invite on Steam? If she wants to sever ties then it would be so easy, and she hasn't.

Hello Zulu13.
I'm sorry to hear that you and your friend are having some rough times. Maybe there is stuff going on in her real life? It's happened to me before on Steam, that I've had to remove some people because of... Issues. Anyway, I think you should just give her some alone time. It is a little harder to know peoples feelings over the internet, so maybe something is up with her in real life and she's just not comfortable talking about it right now.
Anyway, I really hope that she comes around and you guys can patch things up. Good luck.
Thanks for this!

I'm in agreement with STASIS. I guess it's a case of "watch this space". You've messaged her and stuff, so it's up to her, now. Careful not to step into stalker territory, else she'll definitely not come back. Be all like...

"Hi, you there?"

"You there, yet?"

"So, I'm sat here twiddling my thumbs, wondering if you're there, ... are you?"

"Hello, again. I'm walking around your street, now, just thinking of you."

"Me, again. I'm sat outside your house, waiting for you to come out."

"Hi, I don't see you through your window, where are you?"

"Hi, I'm in your house, waiting for you to come home, so we can chat..."

LOL. Creeeeeepy. xD But yeah, ... just be patient, dude. Given you've known each other for such a long time, and seem to get along well, I'd say she'll come back. She's probably just got stuff going on. Granted, it would've been nice for her to tell you as such, but hey-ho.

I don't see much a choice but to let it go until/if your friend contacts you. Sounds you have done what you can. That's the problem with online friendships is we don't know what kind of stress is going on in the background that they don't share with us. Hope they get in touch soon.

she hasn't cut of ties with you or blocked/removed you probably because she just needs space adn it may or may not have anything to do with you.

I agree that you should just let it go and wait it out.

I want to thank you all for responding to my post. I've been terribly hurt by this event, to the point where I felt like I wanted to die. My friend has been a corner post of my life, and I know how pathetic that sounds in lieu of the fact that it's an online friendship, but that doesn't make it any less real to me. I have heard your messages, and please forgive my weakness for asking for reassurances, but in all your opinions, do you feel that I'm getting a silent treatment, or am I being willfully cut out of someone's life? My anxiety makes it difficult to believe that I'm simply being ignored, but logic forces me to reevaluate the situation. As I said before, she hasn't deleted me from any other social networking sites, and she hasn't re-accepted my invite. I know that some of you will probably roll your eyes at this whole post, as we are merely online friends, but her friendship does mean the world to me.
Hugs from:
