So, my friend is in a band and this woman messaged him(she is like 30 years older than him, asking if she can join his band). This is the email convo he sent me of them

Her- Hey I like your music
Him- That's sweet of you, thanks!
Her- Yeah I know. I wanna be your new singer
Him- Well, we're actually not looking for one, but if you send me some of your songs I'll take it into consideration of collabing with you.
Her- / sends songs/
Him- Uh well I don't think you'd be the right fit for me, sorry.
Her- Why not?
Him- Your voice doesn't match our songs how we want them to sound
Her- I've got a great voice
Him- Okay. Alot of people do.
Her- So, yeah. I am gonna be your new singer.
Him- Bro, it's not gonna work out. I'm 20 and my band members are 16, 17, and 23. You told me you were 48...
Her- So what? I look about 18 it doesn't matter
Him- Sorry! We aren't needing a new singer
Her- You're triggering me, I can easily report you for a hate crime.

I kid you not, I can't add the picture he sent me(their screen shot) but she said all of that. Does it sound like she has a mental illness or something? I'm only asking because my friend said after he stopped replying she continued to send him 140 emails(no joke) he counted them.

Here is her music(can she even be serious? in your opinion).

Imsorry but I cant tell you whether this person is for real or not. my ...opinion... is that since this is by email anyone can be anyone in the whole universe on the internet.

my wondering questions.... I wonder if you have permission from this person to post their email conversations with you here. this site is searchable by google and if they didnt give you permission it might violate some legality...

I also wonder what this person thinks should they happen to be a member here on psych central and they see their email to you is posted here. wondering also how you would feel if this person is taking these same emails and posting them elsewhere about you.....

I only mention this because this thread reminds me of another situation I encountered on another website where two members were posting private email conversations with each other, on the website while at the same time not aware that the two were both members of that website. it caused quite a problem for both, not to mention violating each others confidentiality, friendship and the site where they got the emails had a rule about not copying other peoples posts and emails with out permission due to copyright laws in that email company's location. I think psych central also has a rule that members cant repost anything that they do not have the legal right to do so due to copy right laws....

my suggestion you might want to contact this person and ask them for their permission to take their email conversations with you to other sites and post them for all to see.
Thanks for this!

He can block that person. I've encountered people who were tune deaf but wanted to audition for something. It's stupid but not illegal to think she can sing. Your friend can block her. Simple

Anyone can ask themselves if they would want their probate email conversations and some potentially identifying information placed online without their permission. I myself would not like that at all.

For example, on this site the posting of a PM to a thread is not allowed.
Thanks for this!

yes really here in the USA some states now have cyber bully and cyber harassment and things like cyber defamation of character and other cyber laws that include taking emails someone has wrote to you and posting them elsewhere on the internet.

your own police department or treatment providers can tell you whether your location has cyber laws (laws that cover the internet, electronic mail (email).....)
Thanks for this!

Well I for one learned something today and I want to thank the people responsible....so thank you to everyone in this thread. I'm glad to see there are protections in place to discourage cyber crimes and protect a persons privacy.
Thanks for this!

first off, although there is a question as to whether or not it was ethical to post the personal conversation I have couple of things to point out.

1. the person was not identified in the post at all so it is posted as anonymous and not singling anyone out at all. We all know that the op did not post this as a cybercriminal trying to defame anyone specifically but was baffled by the conversation. people post "he said, she said" all the time here on the forums about their own partners, friends and such, even quoting abusive statements and things. Do we censor any kind of re-hashing of conversations because what, this was done in electronic form? how is this different than me telling you if my gf, said that I was a blah blah blah, called me names, hit me, threatened me or anything? Seriously people I get what you're saying but there is nothing tying this to a specific person and everyone is jumping to conclusions.

also, cyber bullying really? It seems to me that the person the OP posted about is far more clearly aggressive and trying to bully someone! WTF. Nothing here is about bullying come on. Why does the term cyber bully even come up in here? it's NOT RELEVANT!

The person on the other end threatened to report the OP for a hate crime, really do you think emailing said person and asking permission to post their toxic crap is a reasonable idea? do you ask your partner if you can post junk about them when you're upset at them? do they all know what you post? are you a cyberbully because you quoted someone's offensive posts? :/ smfh.

@OP I wouldn't worry about that person, it really matters very little if they are serious or not. If you can I would report their threats on the site you spoke of or wherever you had the conversation that is related to this. I'm assuming a music site where you post your music and lyrics and such? anyway... block, ignore and move on, and if they actually do pursue, I'd keep a record of what they say to report them again if necessary.
Thanks for this!

oooh I see that now, I skipped over it thinking it was just signature stuff of the OP because of the link. Eek. No wonder I was taken aback by the post about posting emails with personal information!

So I change my comment to everything I said, assuming there were no identifying information, I would remain solid on that but unfortunately with that pointing us to the other person's page on a site, that is a serious problem.

@OP please remove that portion and/or report this yourself to have the information redacted. everyone is pretty much right that when you posted that link it all became directly linked to a real person on the internet.
Thanks for this!

I think the person (singer) is trolling anyways.

And you cannot really idetify them as a person, track their real address, etc.

They crossed the line in the first place. Either the person is seriously delusional, or they are a troll, which is more likely in times when you can become famous for being horrible on the internet.

I"m pretty sure for something to be a crime there has to be intent. There is no intent to defame here. This is a person asking for support for a particular situation. No, the link should not have been posted, but that was an honest mistake. I do not think any prosecutor would pursue this kind of a case.

I do think everyone is over-reacting with the cyber bullying talk. A simple request to remove the link could have been made without all this fuss.

To the OP, that woman very well could be serious. There's no shortage of delusional people in the world. I suggest your friend block her. And maybe report her to the authorities if he can to create a record? Sounds like she is cyberstalking.

Good luck,
Seesaw

Lol...I sure hope This isn't directed at me but in case it is im not saying what transpired here is or is not a cybercrime. It's not in my job description to decide what is and isn't one so I leave that to the moderators. I said it's nice to know there are protections in place as an in general thing. The information posted here has been very educational
