Okay, so a man liked my profile online...and um, DAMN, he is hot. Okay, so he's a little different than me, but I am kind of feeling the opposites attract thing, like someone who is different than me might balance me out.
Anyways, we've barely chatted. Just enough for me to message him and say, "wow, you are really attractive!" and him to respond "thanks, my name X." And I asked if he's in the military, and he said yes... He lives 2 hours from me. I kind of want to just go ahead and ask him if he wants to meet in the middle somewhere this weekend. An hour isn't too far for me to drive, not considering the city I live in, as sprawled out as it is. Besides, he's too hot to not be worth an hour drive. So, I don't know, is it too soon to ask? Would I be scaring him off? I like what I see and what I've read...I'm okay making the leap to a public meeting. Help. Seesaw

hard to say whether it would scare him off or not. I wish I could say. Thing is, I'm sure you know there's really no standard, it depends on the people involved whether it's too soon or not. Whether or not hes a person that would go for that or not is yet to be found out, and there's not enough to go on here but isn't that the nature of meeting new people and dating?
So essentially you're left with your gut. If it's something that you want to do and feel comfortable doing it, go for it, I'm sure you already know you're taking a risk by doing so but isn't waiting it out possibly taking a risk anyway? Maybe he does want you to initiate? |

You don't know unless you ask.
I'd say just go for it! My bf and I live 45 minutes from each other. Yes, the travelling is a pain. We have plans to move closer in July (he's moving closer my way), so you never know. |

We lived 60 mi apart (in bad traffic area) when we met. Not a big deal. I would talk on the phone first to ensure you have a connection. Good luck

I'd say something to him like "I'm not that GU (geographically undesirable), I'd meet you in the middle."

What if he's dumb as a box of rocks and as interesting as wallpaper paste? You'd regret making the drive. |

Well, I did message him, but then something weird turned out on him, like he changed his location and he's much further away now. So, oh well. On to the next.

Scam. Changing location is a sign number one. Not his picture. Taken off Facebook of random good looking person. I was a victim of romance scam. That man on a picture it's likely identity theft victim as well. A friend of mind had his pic stolen off the Facebook and placed into fake match com profile in order to attract victims.

Lately, I keep hearing about all these online dating scams involving (false) military people. They lure people in with a fake photo and persona and start asking for money. I am not trying to say this is the case with all people in the military on dating sites by any stretch, but I'd be extra cautious.

Wow, that is scary. Thanks for the heads up, y'all! Although I would never send money to someone I had never met in person.
That is seriously scary though.

Yep, came across one of these myself! Supposedly a "born and raised in the midwest" military guy couldn't even speak proper English....sounded like a foreigner who wasn't fluent in (typing) English yet. I even tracked down the guy who's identity he stole and let him know his photos and identity had been stolen. I never heard back. Scary stuff! (I wasn't on a dating site, I was on a pen pal site.) |

I get friend requests every day on fb from men that look military. They must be the same scammers. Probably terrorists.
