I know this is going to sound crazy and trust me it is..
I have been previously married that ended in divorce less than a year later but took 8 years to be finalized because my ex husband is truly a winner.
I have been with my new husband for 9.5 years and married for almost 3. My mother in law and I were close as I thought but every once in a while she can be the most ignorant person toward myself and my children, My husband has told her several times to basically knock it off and it has worked. Lately we have now just found out that she has been keeping in contact with my ex husband!!! Yeah my new mother in law is talking to MY ex. We only found out as we were at their place for a visit, and she took his call right in front of me. What do I do???

You can't stop her from talking to whom she wants unfortunately. I understand your apprehension. it makes little sense since she has no ties to the ex husband as the mother of your current husband. mind boggling but understandable as I've dealt with the same from my family.

After my first marriage dissolved, My sisters and mother continued to keep in touch, indeed, stay friends with the ex; one that had cheated on me which is the reason for the divorce. AFAIK, they continued long after I got married again, moved across the country and have not talked to them since. That's what... let's see my daughter from that marriage is now 24? Divorced when she was like 4 yrs old so nearly 20 yrs. :/

I hate to say it but you really can't stop her from talking to him. You can make it clear to her that you feel it's not appropriate and kind of odd. respectfully and politely if you can.

Well that is a bloody weird situation!

And I truly don't know how you'd tackle it because it's not likely that either of the 2 of them would listen to you or care if you told them to not contact one another.

I'm not going to even begin to ask how they got to the level where they exchanged numbers.

You could try the approach of getting your current partner to just ask her about it; maybe that would shed some light.
