If a girl hits you first...

So if a girl hits, slaps, whatever to a guy... does he have a right to hit back? Just wanting to see everyone's take on this seeing that it's quite a controversy.

I always thought if I were to hit a guy I should be prepared to get hit back. Knowing there was a good chance it would happen and the fact that guys have way more strength than I do, I rarely hit a guy. Luckily the three times (2 different guys) I hit first ended up with the guys puting me in a bear hug.

I was brutally beaten by my boyfriend (now ex) last November without any physical provocation. I NEVER hit back and actually did everything I could to protect myself since he almost killed me.

Unless the girl has superhuman strength, a 2x4 with protruding nails and a back up army the man needs to control his anger.

The girl doesn't have the right to do that in the first place. I don't believe in repaying violence with violence no matter what age, race, gender, etc you are though either - so unless it's absolutely unavoidable, no I don't think he should hit her back either.

Neither the girl nor guy has a "right" to lay their hands on anyone.

I agree that NO ONE has the RIGHT to lay hands on someone else, but if you do you better be prepared to get what's coming.
If I raised my hands to anyone, I would fully expect for them to come back at me, no matter their gender.
So if a girl smacks a guy she better be prepared to take a smack in the mouth back.
Ideally the person who got hit should just turn their back and never look back. But the reality is that rarely happens.

A woman should never assume a man won't hit her back. In most cases I think a man can protect himself and restrain a woman without harming her.

Agree with Nina - although a man should absolutely not be hit in the first place; I think he could restrain a woman without the need to hit her back....

I agree with Trippin2.0 - physical violence from either male or female is unacceptable.

Yeah - no one has the right to do neither.

In my person code of ethics, a man must never hit a woman. He can hold her off to keep her from hurting him, he can get away, he can have her arrested, etc... of course, if he's really being attacked and hurt, all bets are off, he can do whatever it takes.

In my opinion no. A man should never hit a woman, in either self defense or anger.

No human should hit any living thing, period. No excuses if a person is violent under the influence then they need to give up that which makes them violent.

As a guy, I wouldn't hit back.

I cannot imagine myself ever, under any circumstances, hitting a woman. But then I've never hit a man either.

If a girl hits me I laugh and relish it.

I enjoy physical pain because it helps me cope with my often overwhelming emotional pain.

That being said, I would only fight back if I deem the girl an immediate threat to my life, such as if she had a knife or gun or was a trained assassin or martial arts instructor or something and was trying to kill me.

NO just No ...Physical violence is never okay from either sex.

A guy that gets hit by a girl, it would seem to some that he would have a "right" to hit her back, but unfortunately it's not as simple as that on so many levels. First off, typically when someone asks the question as to whether someone has a right to hit someone back, it speaks more to striking someone in retaliation than anything. this is never a good thing.

If a male were to be defending himself from being all out attacked, that is a different story. If a lady slaps me, it hurts, and likely will anger me but in no way would I be defending myself by slapping her back. It is a far cry from an all out attack. There is a very large gap between the two things. And even if one were defending himself, there is a lot to be said about how much defense is enough to protect himself, since most commonly, the male is stronger anyway.

Way too complex of a question that without context it all means really literally nothing.

On top of all of this, I may have rights to a great number of things but it takes a real strong person of character to know that just having the right to do something does not mean we have to invoke that right. What the law says is a right, isn't always necessarily the 'right' thing to do... if you get my meaning.

This is abuse and assault no matter who lashes out. It is not acceptable - unless one is in danger - I think to fight back. By the same token however avoid being an enabler. Remove yourself from the situation. Find help if needed.

In some cultures, yes. Even in so-called civilized countries, like in some shady underground world, I believe the right does exist in the minds of people.

And in this particular case, a guy never should try to restrain a woman, if the police were called it'd never look good.
