Blocked him from instagram because:

1. I don't like him
2. I have some personal art there
3. I want to post a selfie showing my arm (I was on the beach), which has self harm scars on it
4. the last time I posted (a picture of some vegetables) he mentioned it at work to me, asking how my night was. I don't really like that

I didn't just remove him from my followers list because I didn't want him to search my name and see my pictures all over again or realize I removed him. (I want my profile public for my art).

Do you ever have coworkers following you in SM, or have them as friends on FB?

Well... I don't know anything about this. I'm not on Instagram or Facebook or much of anyplace else on the internet either. But I thought I would just say that, assuming this is someone you don't have a relationship with (you wrote you don't like him), I don't think there is any reason why you should allow him access to your Instagram site.

From my perspective, internet relationships can be tricky under the best of circumstances. So, in general, I would think it would probably be best to avoid having coworkers following you on the net. It's just too easy for misunderstandings that occur over the internet to spill over into one's work making everything just all that much more difficult.

I removed all of my accounts - fb, twitter, instagram. But it is your account to do allow or block whomever you choose for whatever reasons you choose.

You can block anyone for any reason.

I don’t feel bad when I do it.

I block coworkers all the time. I don't want them to see stuff from my personal life. If they ask, just tell them you like to keep it to personal friends only. No biggie.

I don't have a Facebook. Perhaps he didn't mean anything by the comment? Or meant to offend you in anyway. Without knowing more about the situation. Did he say how he like it didn't like the picture? But since I am not him. I don't know. Have you expressed your concern to him? Have you spoken to someone higher up?

If you're concerned about how other people will look at you for blocking a coworker on Instagram, I would say it depends. If this is a guy who isn't really well liked by others, there will be no judgement from others whatsoever. However if this guy is socially part of the "in crowd" then your other coworkers will probably think you're weird for doing it.

The problem with Instagram blocking is that if you have a public profile on there, he can still see it on a web browser if he really wanted to. It only blocks people who are logged in on the app, not the public at large.

Also, in case you didn't know this, Instagram has a policy against photos that show self-harm. If someone reports your photos for that, they will remove them and send you a message offering you resources for mental health and crisis counseling. Just thought I'd mention this.
Thanks for this!

Just because I have self harm scars doesn’t mean I should cover up in fear. I deserve to post a happy picture in which I’m wearing, for example, a tank top.

I just don’t want to be scared or feel vilified for something that isn’t a portrayal of self harm itself. I just happen to have scars. The focus is not the scars. It is the beach, and the happiness it brought me. If someone does report it, i’d like to think that IG would see that the picture and caption are not promoting self harm. I feel free in life despite scars.
The policy is about active self harm. Not about showing scars. You should be fine.

Yes, if it's a picture where you can see you have them, that's something else. Sure, post photos like anyone else. I just wasn't sure from the OP what Peppermint meant.

I just want to add that you do not have an obligation to include anybody in your friends lists. It is perfectly okay of you to be selective in who you include. Might I suggest that you consider a criteria for which you weigh the option to include a person? Perhaps it might revolve around your definition of boundaries; like, your definition of the difference between a peer, an acquaintance, and a friend.
