I have a friend (x) who is more like a person than a friend, and she won’t leave me alone. My heart is heavy because I know she is not being honest with herself and she could never understand me or relate to me in any way. We were friends once but now she is just a person to me.

Ask her to leave you alone.

Tell her what you told us. Except in a more tactful manner perhaps.

Hello ann bog. I see this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to Psych Central.

Here's a link to an article, from Psych Central's archives, on the subject of breaking up with a friend:

Breaking Up with a Friend: How to End a Friendship That's No Longer Healthy or Fulfilling | Happily Imperfect

I hope you find PC to be of benefit.

Hello,

Perhaps you need to take her under your wing and explain - in a gentle manner - that she might not be being honest with herself. Because it sounds to me as if it's that which is troubling you about this person. And who knows, maybe the friendship could be rekindled again.

But yes, take her under your wing and explain that she's not being honest with herself. Then the dynamic may change between the two of you, one way or the other.

I'm so sorry, ann bog I'd suggest to talk to her and just tell her that you're not interested in a friendship at the moment. Maybe you can even explain the reason why, if you want. That's your decision, though. I don't think you have any obligation towards her. So I'd say just be honest with her, be tactful and tell her what you've already said here. Wish you good luck! Let us know how it goes. Sending many hugs to you

I think having an honest conversation is best. I've had friends who just disappeared on me with no explanation and that can be painful. Personally, it helps me to understand their reasons and have a sense of closure.

The article Skeezyks provided has suggestions or tell her what you told us (I understand if you have to say it more gently--sometimes the truth is that we only have so much time--our time is so valuable).

Please don't take this the wrong way but if you feel like she could never understand you then you are doing her a favor by ending the relationship so she can invest her time in other things.

If you cant tell her directly, you can show this indirectly.

Indirectly way xd :
For example shallow affect, dont let her come in to your house, room just lock yourself and say everytime you are busy or smth. Eventually she will get this. She won't visit you as usually or even she will be offended and won't talk to you xd
And problem is gone without arguments :P I have tested it out and works

P.S I am a bit late, her post was like 1 year ago, but its okay, others will appreciate this :]
