Hi, so today I have a question regarding hobbies and free time activities. I put it here because I'd like to get a large number of responses.
While I'm intermitting from my studies, I have a large amount of free time, especially from morning to late afternoon. Please could you recommend a good number of hobbies or interesting activities I could do during free time? As it is, I am stuck in bed surfing web on my phone and really do not know what to do with the time, but I'd like to spend it in a worthwhile way. It is a real problem. I also sometimes just sleep through it and feel guilty about it. Also when I ask people they just do not seem to have any ideas. Try to not give me just the generic ones, and I prefer if they are not all about painting, even though I like some artistic activities.
My interests for example are history, psychology and literature but I have already thought of reading and studying, it just doesn't pique my curiosity.
Thank you.

Perhaps going to museums may be interesting to you? Perhaps some archeological sites? It seems like that would cover your interests. I don't have many hobbies myself so I understand what you mean. It's hard! Please keep looking for some interests though! Wishing you good luck with whatever you'll decide to do though! Sending many safe, warm hugs to BOTH YOU, @Jellyfish18, your family, your friends and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking!

Melding your interests with new hobbies is easy stamp and coin collecting ,first day covers ( I collected stamps as a hobby as a kid as I loved learning history and stories behind a stamp ,as I got older I specialized in "Peace" " love" stamps and anything related to a disability from Special Olympics , wheelchairs ,to alcoholism ,drug abuse and MI ,it's pretty cheap hobby and lots of opportunity to go down a rabbit hole of special intrest. Another thing that should come as no surprise by the amount I talk ,I am an amateur radio operator /part 15 micro broadcaster(what the Heck is that ?) I run a low power commercial free stereo radio station for my neighborhood !i bothplay music as well as run a twice a week show doing a deeper dive on a historical event or topic .

There are a Kazillion different hobbies you can pick from! Do you like to work with your hands? What about learning a new language?

Have you looked at online crafting websites? What about cooking or baking? Or photography?

I found this list on wikipedia for you to peruse: List_of_hobbies

I wonder about having ton of free time. Why is that? Do you work? Could you just get a job? Or are you a minor?

Now hobbies are cool but I wouldn’t get hobbies just to fill up free time, I’d do something I enjoy. What is that you like to do?
Thanks for this!

If you are still living with your parents, you could do the housekeeping while they are at work. It would help them out, and you would learn useful skills for when you have a place of your own. It would fill your time, give you a sense of accomplishment and teach you to be a bit less self centred.

As you're interested in history, visits to sites can also provide the opportunity to meet people. In lots of cases, you don't need experience just enthusiasm.

It's very tempting to surf the net or read, but on a nice day does seem a waste.

You're interested in psychology, so why not contact local services to see if you can sit in on group sessions. If you only do the drinks, it's a good use of your time. Often charities welcome volunteers, if only to collect money. I've done this for a military charity in the UK. What a great variety of people I met, from members of the armed services to the general public on the street. It's natural to question if you can do it. That's normal. When you hear how much a charity has raised, it's a good feeling to be part of that effort.

History...find historical sites near (or far) that you can visit
Local historical societies often have some really interesting materials from actual events and time period that I find much more interesting than just reading about...
Try any hobby/craft----look for a one day, few hour class at a library or local center so that you can try different things without investing a lot and see what "sticks"---sometimes you can be surprised by what is interesting...

no offence but if you are stuck in bed surfing or sleeping all afternoonyou could be a bit depressed. or if you are not it is a good recipe for depression. Better get out and go for a walk hobby or not. Bring a camera and take some photos

Hi Mickey, thanks for trying anyway. Just wondering what hobbies do you have? Perhaps I get some ideas. Thank you.

Hey, thank you for some good tips and the website, I'm just perusing it now.
I like to work with my hands to a degree, and learning a new language seems interesting.
The thing is, most things don't seem to take up much of your time, for example cooking and baking. I do that sometimes, cook something out of the ordinary, but it only takes about two hours. While I need something to take up more hours at a time, something you can spend the whole day doing. I guess writing a play would be one such thing but the problem is, I don't really feel inspired to do that ...
Thanks for any suggestions.

I am looking for a job at the moment, it'd probably be in a shop right now. But the thought of going to work without having some hobby or sth. that interests me to come back to fills me with even worse dread. It's just an uninspired existence, to put it one way I suppose ...
What do you like to do then? Maybe I get some ideas like that?

For many people, playing chess is interesting and challenging. Opportunities to learn, play, and study chess are readily available online.

Since you like to work with your hands 2 more suggestions leather working and wood working ,I used to do both I have made everything from wallets and briefcases to a carved wall hanging for a church rectory of the last supper .

Wood carving is crazy fun a knife ,some chisels or a Dremel motor tool! Just look at the wood long enough and it will "tell" you what it should be ,using downed tree limbs and driftwood found on the beach , make it a trifecta your "up cycling garbage", being creative using your free time , and when you get good at it can make some serious money , the samè is true of leather but the materials and tools are investments .

I draw and paint. I exhibit in art shows so it’s kind of semi professional thing for me but not necessarily source of income, still a hobby. I do belong to art organizations. I do Zumba and water aerobics in local gym. I read. I do scrapbooking, themed and decorated photo albums type of things. I love theater (plays, musicals). I love to travel even if short trips

I think it's great you do that many things and I'm sure you're good at them.
You've given me some good tips as well.

Also consider exercise or fitness as a hobby and set a goal such as running in a 5K race or make a goal of walking, swimming or gym workout three times to five times per week for 30 to 60 minutes. Hiking on weekends is a good hobby as well since you can go with hiking meetup and make friends, see new places, and enjoy nature.
