This is a hard question.

For me, it is hard to say, because I think of the way I acted when I was younger, when it came time to make friends. I was always wary of others... took me a very long time to open up... I know I could be very frustrating to people who wanted to be my friend. It took a very long time to earn my friendship... but it could be ended very quickly.

I like to think I was "worth the effort" to my friends... once they had earned my friendship, I will do anything for them, I was very loyal. Earning it can make it hard for the person who has to do the earning... but it can be worth it. Some people need to be 'earned', they need it to be shown to them that the other person in the friendship will invest time and care into it.

Not really sure that answered your question, sorry.

friendships.. that you must earn?? ((( Freewill )))

We all earn friendship in some way. I wouldn't want one that I had to work at though. It should come easily. An old saying is "he that would have friends, must show himself to be friendly."

Sometimes we try too hard to be friends with people that don't want to be our friend. we also end up with friends that we really don't want. Life is good though and we meet people that can become life long friends.Tthe best kind are the ones that know when to offer advice and when to shut the heck up. When to be there to listen and when to just be there.

I had a friend, actually my half brother. Anthony. He died at age 40, that was 10 years ago. There is not a day that has went by that I don't remember him. A song on the radio or a situation brings back fond memories. That is the kind of person I call friend.

I hope you are doing well and progressing.

Have a great day,

Eric

earning someones friendship is a two way street, meaning if someone says you must earn there friendship then they also need to earn your friendship

really nice question for me.
i used to have a so called best who was once my classmate. And i treated him very well:invited him to my place when there was a holiday, played basketball together , bought him CDs ,went home together and i even paid his Saloon fees. But it always gave me a feeling that it was ME who was trying to lead the friendship.(it was me who always offered to make a phone call.) Then from a certain time i tried to not call anymore to find out what might happen and we lost contact from then on.
I should feel glad that i havent call him again, shouldnt i?

Yes....... as I too would expect them to earn My Friendship (love & trust)....... that which goes beyond the office, work, Sunday church, PTA meetings or any other gathering.
