Please do pray for mom again... I don't know if she's really ill or if the rehab center is just shipping her out since she's on co-pay now with them, rather than full pay by HMO. They're saying her white blood cell count is high...yet she doesn't have a temperature.

I won't be able to visit her until I D K ...

Pray specifically that her morale will stay high, and that they won't put her on prednisone!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank you for this opportunity to pray for one of our sisters. Thank you that Sky's mom has a normal temperture. I ask that you be with them both as there is a need for her to stay motivated to fight this high white blood cell count. Please find a way for her to receive the best care by those in charge of her rehab. I ask that you be with Sky's mom and guide the doctors making her health decisions and not put her on prednisone just because that is the usual choice of treatment. Give them creativity in their thinking and help her to heal. We ask this all in you name, Amen
Thanks for this!

Hospital just called to verify mom's advanced directives.
I talked with nurse for a bit, and found out they have been treating her infection with a med that it's resistant to! She's been going downhill.
They just put a central line in, to dump in the meds I guess...
hopefully she will perk up within a few hours? I hope. Family hopes.

It's holiday and driving during holiday time is really tough for me. Pray that I can get it together, midst the thunderstorms and holiday traffic, to go see her this evening...

Thanks all. Mom is doing much better. Her blood pressure is up and they don't need to intubate her. She's alert and speaking/answering questions. She does have some chest congestion they are watching, and the meds they are giving her to force her heart to pump better is being weaned off...which is good as it suppresses the kidneys.

She ate a little while I was there, but they are thinking of feeding her through a tube to boost her up faster.

This is a newer hospital and many in the area still don't know it's there...plus I suspect they released everyone they could for the holiday... but mom is in ICU and it still isn't full, so she is getting full attention... and wonderful care!

Unfortunately, she went in with MRSA. Don't know where she got it but I suspect it was from the regional hospital and that's why their own rehab center wouldn't take her.

Continue to pray that she will grow stronger and stronger. She's much much better than when she went into hospital last time, yet they are upset that the rehab center waited so long to send her in!!!

Thunderstorms abound again today (and will for another week as seen on the horizon of weather casters.) I can be immobilized by them Yesterday there was a few hour break, and I took off to see mom, though much earlier than I had planned. It worked out well as my sister from up the road some had planned to come down that evening when I had originally planned to be there. God works in mysterious ways, even pausing the storms for me.

But alas again today... I need to get some things done... outside of the home, away from home... or can I change them to "wants" instead? God help me to know the difference, what will wait and what can't. I don't think too much about needing to go see mom, if it happens it happens. Keeps the stress down that way. I trust she is in good hands, and won't leave right now.

Thanks! The skies cleared tonight and I went... though my eyes were quite red because of fatigue...

Mom's BP is good and all...she's stable. Yet they are pushing for a signed DNR. Nope. They have her living will, and that's all they need imo. This isn't about her heart, this is about the dog gone infections she picked up from the hospital stays and the added ABs she's had to take because of them. Yes, maybe her kidneys will fail but.... it won't matter if they have a dnr or not for that.

She hadn't had her hair combed in days, and I had left my comb in the car so I ran my fingers through her hair and gave her a head massage which she enjoyed.. need to drag a brush up there (I gave her the last one for the last stay and it's at the rehab center still I guess... they didn't even send her with her ID??? Have to check into that when I'm feeling up to it.

Hi all. My nurse sister is down from Tampa and seeing mom for a few days. Whew! Even on a holiday weekend, she did come over. This is good since yesterday I just couldn't get there, and this morning (and still) I'm suffering effects from a massive migraine.

Mom's kidneys are shutting down due to so many medicines that result in that. Please pray for the strength of her kidneys to return, and for her infections to subside so the ABs that she's taking can be withdrawn before her kidneys fail. They continue to press us for signed DNR, but if her kidneys go, nothing will revive her anyway.

I so appreciate all of your prayers and thoughtfulness during these tough times.

Mom's kidneys did not perk up with the changes. They are making more changes tonight which should increase her output. All other vitals are good, except her BUN and creatinine levels are increasing (yet she isn't in acidosis!)

Family has been called and we all agree that a discussion about temporary dialysis is in order, and if it's feasible to see if even one treatment clears her some and helps her at all. If not, then we'll begin thinking hospice. IDK if a dialysis treatment would cause her to code or not.

My thoughts are we can do all we can and if she still goes, then it was supposed to be that way. Or we can stop everything and if she's supposed to live, she will. It's all really in God's hands. At least we've had time to get used to the idea?

We still aren't sure to sign a DNR. Care will reduce (though they say it won't) my sis and I both know it will once that's signed. I explained to my sis about the living will, that if she codes and they are able to revive her, but if they have to intubate and all, then we will have our answer anyway: that isn't what she'd want. The living will gives us that power to remove the life support.

Mom told me in our last semi-conversation that she didn't want to go yet. My sis will try and catch her in a cognitive moment if she has one tomorrow and ask her what she wants us to do.

Either way... she has no quality of life for future unless a miracle occurs. (That's totally up to God.) The rest of her life will be in bed we think, as she never got the chance to walk at the rehab. She's been in ICU bed for...IDK how long ... at least a week. (They did have her sitting on the side of the bed today though.)

Just thought I'd let you know. I silently ? wish that if she needs to go this time, that she do so before we try anything new. Her mom went in her sleep, I wish the same for my mom.

Mom is totally unresponsive today. The nephrologist said that her kidneys have been shut down for 4 days and they won't come back, even with dialysis. He's delayed ordering it "until tomorrow." I wonder if that means he expects her to pass tonight? Family's been called to tell them of his response.

I did go in and see her early this morning. God told me to go see her. I combed her hair and sang an Irish song she used to sing to me when I was little. She didn't squeeze my hand or acknowledge me in any way.

I'm really very stressed but also numbing, which is totally normal. Forgive me ahead of time for any errant words I may say, I don't mean anything negative. There are other "negative" things going on in my life in addition to this, but of course, this is the biggest.
