Hello, PTSDlovemycats. Seems like your therapist should be the one giving you suggestions.

I think it depends upon your bent in the spiritual realm. For a Christian, The Holy Bible can be a great source...depending upon whether you are depressed or frustrated or fearful or needing strength, finding who you are etc...will determine which book to read. For needing to feel loved by God begin with the book of John.

For motivation, there are many authors who encourage one to find themselves and their purpose.

For finding your spiritual sense, you can take a survey at belief.net that will help you determine what you believe and where it fits in with organized groups. That would be a good place to begin if you aren't sure what you believe.

When I did not know what was out there, I just asked source ( or whatever you believe in ) to guide me. To lead me to the right spiritual thing (s) for me. It is such an individual thing. Some people like yoga. Others like laugh yoga. Others like church, while some like Buddhist Sanghas. Still others might enjoy siting in a meadow or wooded area while comtemplating nature.

for starters, if you wanted, you might try out simply sittiing in a chair and imagine being surrounded with golden light. As it seeps into each cell of your body, if that appeals to you. Spiritual, as I would define it in this moment, is simply connecting to the Divine. I know thats a simplistic definition. And someone could dispute that, and they too would be correct. connecting to spirituality is an unfolding journey. I love it when people come to it with a blank slate. Meaning they just do not know. Because this means they are open to all possibilities. Good luck !!

Maybe take the BeliefNet quiz to see what your spiritual "type" is?
