We have bigger houses but smaller families;

more conveniences, but less time.

We have more degrees but less sense;

more knowledge but less judgment;

more experts, but more problems;

more medicines but less healthiness.

We’ve been all the way to the moon and back,

but have trouble in crossing the street to meet our new neighbour.

We built more computers to hold more copies than ever,

But have less real communication;

We have become long on quantity,

but short on quality.

These are times of fast foods but slow digestion;

Tall mean but short characters;

Steep profits but shallow relationships.

It’s a time when there is much in the window

But nothing in the room.

Was this the most recent Dalai Lama? I don't know what to think of him, though the predecessor was reported to be quite nice.

Sure makes one think, eh?

This is indeed, the current dalai lama who spoke the words.

For me, I find alot of good insight in what he writes. Though, some have said he is more...well, liberal than the past dalai lamas have been.

In this writing, I find that what he says resonates with what i see happening within the world. It sounds kind of dismal at first, but on the good side it shows us the things we can do to have a better, healthier society.

Again, just my opinion on what I get out of it.

Thank you, I love the Dalai Lama and many Buddhist teachings.

Have you read any of Pema Chodron's books? (forgive me if I have asked you this before). She is an American Buddhist nun and she writes about one book a year. I love to read them; they are wise, thought-provoking like your post, and so gentle that I relax reading them. You can find them and order them at www.shambhala.com .

Thank you again for your post!

Yes, indeed, his words can be used for good!

Anyone meet him, or see him in public? He was here at Nova SouthEastern just the other year.
