We have bigger houses but smaller families; more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense; more knowledge but less judgment; more experts, but more problems; more medicines but less healthiness. We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble in crossing the street to meet our new neighbour. We built more computers to hold more copies than ever, But have less real communication; We have become long on quantity, but short on quality. These are times of fast foods but slow digestion; Tall mean but short characters; Steep profits but shallow relationships. It’s a time when there is much in the window But nothing in the room - The dalai lama |

Can you imagine a world where people with that kind of wisdom were in positions of power and authority. I can't in my mind, but I can in my soul. Great post. Many blessings, Etheria

Yes, but there's a difference between head knowledge and heart knowledge isn't there? I mean, the Dalai Lama could speak eloquently when he was entertaining an audience.
It isn't far from what others have posted on their websites, you know? Some of the things that make no sense (not quite as silly as parking in a driveway and driving on a parkway, but similar) are often good for thinking. Good food for thought, and actions!

I don't wish to take away from the Dalai Lama's wonderful words, but he is human like the rest of us, and certainly has his bad days, as he showed when he visited South Florida last year. He was in an absolutely wretched mood.
![]() But.. if we do keep in mind that he is human with great wisdom, I think we can still avail ourselves of that! ![]()

I have the greatest respect for the Dalai Lama and would cherish the chance to meet him. I would also have cherished the opportunity to speak with the great Ghandi. Both are/were persons of wisdom, embracing their faiths fully and trying to change the world into a much better place.
It is neither my place, nor right to judge either of these great men's faiths or beliefs. It is my duty, however, to glean knowledge and insight wherever I can so that perchance I can make my little corner of the world a better place. Jan Jan

Amen to all you said January! I too would be honored to meet the Dalai Lama and have the utmost respect for Ghandi and, Mother Teresa. Jinnyann, while I do not subscribe to any particular organized religion, Buddhism really is like a wonderful life philosophy.
I still wish that men and women with such wisdom and deep compassion were in positions of power - ah, what a different world it might be. Many blessings to you all, Etheria

However, I think that if Christ had been alive in our age, he would have been speaking similar wisdoms.......we can see those wisdoms spoken in the bible....only problem mostly it isn't in todays language & had been translated in the first place.....& it spread throughout the bible....not just in one quote that we can continue to read over & over.
We have lots of wisdoms to put into thought & action when we look for it, Debbie

Yes, I really have wanted to meet many wise people in my time. I'm upset with myself for not meeting Helen Keller, though I was young and didn't realize she would die, you know, but she was alive in my lifetime. I have met Billy Graham, Dr James Kennedy, and a few other sages. When the dalai lama came to South Florida it was quite a coup; he was coming to me and I didn't have to go to him. It was not good. He was a miserable person (I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he was just having a bad day.) His aggravation didn't go unnoticed and was reported on by the media too. If he returns to South Florida, I doubt very many will bother. I don't post this to trounce him, btw. I post this so that we remember to not put human beings on a pedastal. No good comes from that.
I was going to post this when the thread first went up, but felt it too negative. But now that "Mother" Theresa's letters have been made public, and we see how she doubted even the existence of God, well, it reminded me about this thread. Keep things in perspective, is what I'm saying. Don't put a person on a pedastal, but utilize the words that cause us growth. ![]()
