Hey everyone,

So when I was a kid I learned how to go into a kind of state where it seemed like I was separate from my body, but somehow still aware of my body, and explore this world and others. Its hard to describe but the experience was somewhere between a daydream and an actual dream. It wasn't completely under my control and events and other characters in this definitely had wills of their own. It wasn't symptomatic of a disassociation disorder since I was in complete control over when it happened and the duration.

I tried to explain this when I was little but since no one else could do it I was made fun of for it a lot and stopped discussing it and stopped doing it for a while too. Every once in a while I still do it and have been doing it more often recently before bed both to relax as well as use it to inspire short stories. I have been curious if there is a name for it or if anyone else does that. Was this some type of meditation that anyone here is aware of? Thank you.

Hello T-Price: Unfortunately the Skeezyks doesn't know anything about this really. It sounds sort-of like what used to be referred to as: "astral projection". I've never had this type of experience myself. I would not consider this to be a type of meditation. Meditation, from my perspective, is simply a practice that involves being in the present moment with whatever is going on just as it is...

Thank you Skeezyks for your reply. I had considered that it was astral projection but it isn't as vivid as I have heard it described by others. But I asked a friend of mine who knows about things like that and she agrees with you.
Thanks for this!

I believe you are talking about lucid dreaming. A state between sleep and full consciousness. It's a very powerful thing and I encourage you to do it often! I did it a lot as a kid too! I'm 51 now and have picked up on the practice again. Best to do before sleep or just after you wake up. Your mind is in this "inbetween" state.

Many of the create your own realty gurus suggest that when in that lucid state it is good to think and visualize your dreams and FEEL what it is like to "be" whatever it is you are desiring.

Lol, sorry I veered of there! Look up lucid dreaming. It's cool stuff and even cooler that you stumbled upon it organically as a kid!!! Powerful stuff!
Thanks for this!

That's the description I was trying to give it but couldn't remember the exact term I was looking for. I'm more aware of it when falling asleep than waking up but recently, as I was waking, I became aware that there seemed to be two parts to what was happening. It was like on the left side of my dream screen were people and faces I've known or seen, and on the right were places or situations I've thought about/experienced. The two sides were weaving in thier own directions, at times intersecting, putting people in unusual places and situations. Usually these are very pleasant experiences for me, but, on rare occasions, disturbing, and sometimes, even enlightening. I think a person could train themselves to do this, like a form of self hypnosis with positive results. Maybe be cautious if working with traumatic substance.
Thanks for this!

Thanks , I'll call it a shaman thing ! Altered states of consciousness are fascinating. I'll never forget my first experiences of them.

Let's hear about that first experience! Agree, alter states of consciousness is a very cool thing. I would love to hear your story!

alchemy63 - Very interesting how you have a split screen to this dimension. Sounds really cool! Is it like a vision? How do they combine? Do you feel you are consciously combining the two? What is the overall feeling you get when this combination happens?
Thanks for this!

The first one was around three years ago. I was half asleep early one morning and felt like I'd gone through a doorway into another place , a strange landscape a bit psychedelic. I saw some swirling energy which coalesced into the form of a Snow Leopard ( see my avatar ). I walked out across the landscape , the Snow Leopard walks beside me. First lucid dream I'm walking down some dark streets and become aware I was dreaming , then I try flying and can. And it did access some trauma and was difficult. Strange experiences but very healing.

That sounds pretty cool! I love the flying part! Yes you can.

If you don't mind me asking. How did it access trauma? How did you transcend/heal it?

Btw, love your tag line! "Trauma happens - so does healing " - An optimist!

The Snow Leopard is your power animal. See Disney's 2016 "The Jungle Book" to see a good explanation of what a power animal is. Pay attention to the Panther in that story.

Sorry I haven't replied sooner Zen. Well, not sure I have a lot of insight to give on this but here goes.

The experience for me is very similar to normal dreaming. When I dream, I release all normal constraints of trying to control where my thoughts might go. This gives me access to the thoughts and ideas I wouldn't normally have in my usual state of linear thinking. So no, I don't try to control it consciously, but, the thoughts I usually have, while conscious, subliminally guide where my thoughts travel in a less concious state. That's how I mean it's possible to control the thoughts somewhat consciously while you are in an unconscious state.

My overall feeling is pleasure. That's because, while concious, I guide my thoughts as positively as possible. It follows that my unconscious thoughts would be pleasant also.

@ Tbow

Saw a mountain lion the other day. Cool I believe in the power of totem animals. I believe they are signs from 'the gods' or spirits, what have you. I believe they messengers with a message of strength, hope, or love. Strength, hope and love are medicines for our spirits. To see these animals in nature is a true blessing. I believe we are fortunate to be in that place, at that time. I do what I can to take in the animals' energy and spirit and use it as my own strength and power. Strive on brother.
Thanks for this!

Visit the astralpulse.com i've had these same experiences and can conciously get there now. There are tons of knowledgeable people on there on this subject. I'm not pitching for them i'm just saying. Good place to be for this subject.
