As many of you know my dad has been having some health issues the last few months. Well I found out to what degree the bladder really is. He is bleeding bad every time he goes to pee. I saw the blood last friday when I had to take him to the dr. His biopsy has been put off for a number of weeks now, then they found out his caroitid artery is all but blocked. Today they finally decided to do surgery next friday and do both. They told me they normally will not do 2 at the same time with the artery issue but the bladder is critical as well. please keep him in your prayers.

Guess in a lot of ways, we are learning what they went through with taking care of us....now it's our turn to worry.

(((((((((Be)))))))) I'm so sorry about your dad. Mine had bladder cancer too, which was discovered after he reported major blood in his urine. He put off going to the dr. till it was too late. I can't believe your dad's drs. are blowing this off and postponing things -- it's his LIFE, for heaven's sake!

well gang they have postponed it again! now not til the 10th! errrrrrrrrrrr

Grrr I agree...can you get a second opinion about the waiting???? My dad put things off until it was too late, I think. And even then, as his cancer doubled in size each day, they wanted to send him home for the weekend, rather than do surgery on the Friday. It may have cost him his life, as they then couldn't get all the tumor.

we tried to get him in with another uro in the group so he didn't have to wait any longer. I told my stepmom if this turns out to be cancer she needs to sue the pants of his old uro for only treating him for an infection. when I took him to the dr last week he had no infection at all. they did send his urine to california for a special dna type test to see if there are cancer cells present

Not sure this needs a trigger, but better safe than sorry.

Be, I don't remember exactly but it was pretty far along by the time it had gotten to the blood-in-urine stage. He and my mom had a trip to France planned, and he postponed telling her and getting surgery, etc, till after they got back because he didn't want to ruin it for her. (She totally never deserved him, but that's a whole other story. )

He had had bladder cancer several years previous, and surgery took care of it, but then it came back and eventually ended up in his colon and lungs as well.

I don't know what shape your dad is in with his mental health, but mine was worn down by 48 years of hell with my mother and just quit when he got the dx. He was gone very quickly afterward -- less than 8 weeks.

candy dad is ok mentally but ready to go. He is a very strong christian man so I have no worries there except he may not let them do anything to him about this if it is cancer. I am worried too that the pain he is in already. he said he hurts all the way up to near his belly button and into his penis. to me it just does not sound good at all. I know there is no infection going on at this point. I hope they can tell us on the 10th what is going on.

Certainly they can give him pain meds?! The older generation just often doesn't realize all the wonderful medications we have. I know my dad never did, until we forced him to try it, and he realized that the pain med worked!



BTW, if he's able, drinking green tea might help slow it, if it is cancer. But the idea that it can, might be just as powerful.

sky when I took him to the dr the other day he was in terrible pain. I asked the dr if I could give him some of mine to try to see if it helped and it did. Thank goodness the dr ok'd it or dad would not have taken it. for him though if he thinks it will make him high he will not take it. hehe good christian man he is!

tomorrow morning is the surgery. well they were going to do both at the same time but now pushed back the biopsy one til thursday morning now. please keep us in your prayers as we go thru this

That's weird. If he's under for one surgery, why can't they do a biopsy at that time too?? I'd make sure they explain that, and hope it isn't just for additional monies!
