the Holy Spirit is refered to as "counseler" or "the comforter" God is the "perfect Father" there's bound to be some good advice there! I seek his council for my life daily. I used to feel my life had no meaning or purpouse...and even though things in my life were basicly good I was far from happy. We're all seeking peace/love in our lives and the symptoms of looking for it in " all the wrong places" is what keeps psychiatrists in bussiness. The choice is of course YOURS, what would be most likely to help you just as you are right now? Are you in a place that no one else can understand? He can...and he's waiting especially for you, right now! would you come?

Dear Coral I believe God is our primarily psychologist-counselor. Our brother above has been right about saying that Holy Spirit of God is given to us as our comforter and counselor. Yet I believe assistance of others – people is essential also. God has created us to be in community, he has given us certain skills and knowledge for us to us. I believe it was given for a purpose and we shouldn’t neglect it.
I believe God is working with in us, counsels, heals, renews us within the deep inner parts of our hearts, our being where human beings aren’t qualified to intervener. Yet our God so wonderful that he shares his grace with us and grand us with some tools to help each other. As it says we are coworkers of God. Physiologist might not necessary do the work of healing, transformation, and still he/she has been granted to learn some tools to help you, to direct you on the right path towards recovering.

By His grace,
Sonya

I think its okay to see a psychologist even if you are christian. I mean, you'd see a cancer doc if you had cancer. I'm sure God partners with you in your healing but its seems to me to be logical to seek those trained (as we would in medical illnesses).

God is fully qualified to be our psychiatrist. That isn't the problem. I think the question is: are we qualified to hear what He says, can we understand if He told us, or do we even bother acting on what He does say when we do hear and undertand?

He knows all. The best we can do is to seek His wisdom. He gives doctors knowledge and wisdom to help us.

My pain management psychologist is a Christian, and I know he relies upon God to lead him to help me. Together they make a great team! And the 3 of us are winning the battle. Is God my psychiatrist ?

I am glad you a suceeding in managing your pain

I suffer from chronic pain, the doc gives me Vicoden, Flexeril and 800mg ibuprophen

I rarly take any of them and try to rely on pain relief from within, and a high tolerence to it

I agree that God give knowledge and ability to docs, but never understand why we are so much more privliged than those say just 100-200 years ago with advancments in the medical field and electricity, running water.....why does he want this for us(or does he)....but left all the rest to suffer without

Seems they probably spent more time worshiping him before TV, internet, video games, etc .....and would deserve his healing/help even more so

We're only priviledged, as you say, according to us; people who lived 100-200 years ago didn't know anything else medical or electricity/indoor plumbing, etc. anymore than we feel less priviledged than those who will be around 100-200 years from now.

I did fine without a computer and the Internet in the 1970's in my 20's :-) and didn't feel deprived going outside to play every afternoon in the 1950s instead of watching television and playing video games.

Spending more time in church or church activities is not the same as worshipping and I don't think people involved in their lives in past times spent any more/less time worshipping God or were more/less deserving of God's love.

He is a very quiet and elusive psychiatrist but He is a lot cheaper than a specialist.

Sky,
The stillness you faith provides you is appealing.

I often think I'd have been better off in the olden days when you had to cut wood, grow food and get around on a horse.

ya, I understand you can't miss what you never knew existed, things have changed drasticly over the past few hundred years though

far as standards of living , like central air, nice cars/suvs, etc etc and medical stuff, I feel we have been far more privliged technicaly, maybe not hypothedicaly......but feel humans were better off back when electric etc etc was not known, and also feel they were closer to God in school, family, etc ........in general
