I am going to attend a Methodist church sunday with my family, so I was wondering if there were any Methodist members here.
I am interested in any feed back or insite from any members of any denominations, as well, on their view of what seperates Methodists , from other christian churches Please feel free to be open about your views, whatever direction they may be. The dictonary says > member of Protestant Christain denomination that developed from the teachings of John Wesley of course I'll be doing some google research also but, would like some feed back from here, as well I feel that I was led to this church through intercession, and am very curious now, of its structure, and history I will tread lightly while attending, I'm sure some here who know a little of my character know why but,I was approached with such open arms out of the blue about attending this sunday, it is a beautiful church within less than a mile of my house, I could see it if the trees did not block my view, I saw the old lady again today, who invited us, she said I had guardian angles the other day, and hope we like them at the church, they were like a big family but, had a small membership of only about 52 I will try to be light on the tounge, and heavy on the ears ![]() Thanks in advance Eddie |

Do you really care so much what John Wesley taught or it the main reason for going to learn what JESUS taught?

I will probably stay up late learning about what John Wesley taught, never even heard of him before looking it up in the dictonary, I already feel comfortable saying, I know what Jesus taught
![]() I am going #1 for my children, since I feel alot of what is taught in Christain faith is a good influence in their life, as well as, fellowship with other christain children, and my 5 year old always asks to go to church, since she remembers me taking her"I guess" as a infant 2-3 and talks about Jesus regular, on her own, from what she remembers, and says she misses church, almost every time we pass one Whether or not I agree with everything taught in the bible or not, I would never impose my feelings or my beliefs in flaws in the bible on my children, since there is nothing good for them to gain from that, in this community, however if they ever ask me, I would be cautious but, receptive to explaining how i feel but, I have no problem with them following traditional religion and teachings, if thats what they chose, and would even help foster their education in traditional teachings, that I feel well seasoned in I am attending "myself" for reasons that may make me sound "crazy" but, oh well ........ I feel that spirits I have a close relationship to, are leading me to the church that they may once attended, since most of their family attends it, I have a feeling he & she are buried there or near by but, can't say for sure yet, part of my curiosity, since I want to vist their grave sites once again, I'll be light on the tounge and heavy on the ears, while in service, this is not about salvation for me, as much as understanding, whats going on in my life, that is real to me, maybe I have been wrong and they are trying to show me something, this is still to be determined, I am "human" still and have ability to change my standpoint and mind at any point in time Why do you ask ? Do you have any input on the topic of the thread you'd like to share ? |

I was raised Catholic ...but have been attending a Methodist church just over a year now....my wife was protestant so we sort of met in the middle....Its still a new experience for me...I dont get into Wesley's methods much...I just go to be close to God....every person must follow their own spritual journey in my opinion...........

My great great grandfather and his son, my great grandfather's brother were both Methodist ministers. My great grandfather's brother wrote an autobiography:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~nechurch/MECHURCH/faith/ Some of my early years were spent attending this church, http://www.metropolitanumc.org/ their "our beliefs" section on the left might help you?

thank you both, very much
![]() I have studied a little on John Wesley , what I have read so far about his stand against slavery so long ago, is very admirable, and shows that he had moral fiber, and fundemental values, that many who claimed to be rightous lacked back then .... In my opinion, that is I plan to do some more research tonight, since so far it has been limited |

I grew up United Methodist. I was taught that everyone would go to heaven (those who believed in Christ) except murderers and some other group I can't recall. I learned most all the Scripture I needed for Bible College there though... but it took someone from another faith to tell me that I personally needed to accept Christ's payment on the cross so that I could go to heaven. I'm sure glad they did that, show me God's wondrous love!
![]() That one of the Methodist groups/churches removed all hymns that pertained to the payment of sin through Christ's work on the cross, several years ago, is about all I know of changes and differences now between them. Sorry. I hope you report back with a great, positive experience. (((hugs))))

Coral, you asked me:
Do you have any input on the topic of the thread you'd like to share ? My answer and probably only input to this thread is that each denomination has their own agenda or their own special little indiocincracies; people who's ideas they have adopted. The Baptists believe that you need to be baptised by immersion; the Presbyterians don't. They baptise their babies. I was one of them. The thing is, none of this is going to save your soul in the end. I'm sure you've read my Five Christain Absolutes thread and that if you believe in Heaven, those are the only things that will get you there. It goes without saying that you need to believe in the Triune God, too, in order to believe in His son, Jesus and what HE taught. ![]()

One person is drawn this way, another that, and both might appear to be completely contradictory. We want to go the right way and yet, the only way that we can go is the way we go without always knowing if it's the right way or not. And yet, I firmly believe this is the way we must do it. We each must walk our own path and be true to whoever we are in that moment.

The church was a beautiful site, I counted about 25-27 adults that attended
There were several children, almost half as many as adults, they were all little girls except one, mostly the same age as my little girls, my children loved it I enjoy'd the service ,and my little girls 3 & 5, were asked to help in the waving of the Palm leaves, they liked that interestingly to me,they never passed out a offering plate ![]() the stained glass windows had memorials in them of many faimlys carrying the Jackson name interestingly also, when I was asked where I lived by some memebers, I told them the old Frank Jackson farm house built in 1907, there was a strange look on the mans face, who told me that the church was also built in 1907 ..... though established in 1868 I did not want to pry about my intrest in the cemetary across the street,we will attend next sunday, I will find ration behind all this in due time, since I plan to start to attend My little girls were invited to the easter egg hunt next week and asked if they could start going every sunday, how could I say no ![]() We stay'd for bible study, this was a very comforting setting, with receptive members, who were very open and welcoming to my interjections on the topic good day for all ![]() |

It sounds like you were led to just the right church for you and your girls. I'm impressed with your cautious approach to the questions you have about the family and their history - it shows respect. I'm sure in due time you'll find out what you need to know. ![]() |
