Do you consider yourself wise and understanding? Does your life and actions show it by the humility that comes from wisdom?

Or do you harbor envy and selfish ambition? Don't boast about it or deny the truth.

This kind of "wisdom" doesn't come from God but is unspiritual. When you are envious and have selfish ambition, you will find disorder and evil.

Always be loving and faithful. Bind them around your neck, write them on your heart. You will win favor and a good name with God and man.

The envy and self ambition you spoke of is what is called counterfeit wisdom. It has three distinct characteristics:

1. It produces bitter envying. Especially towards those that disagree with us.

2. Produces strife or factiousness.

3. The third characteristic of false wisdom is arrogance.

It isn't of God but of this earthly realm, with it's fallen minds. Wisdom that is from above is pure, peaceable, and gentle, treating others with forebearance.

great thread Tomi! yes, we've all "stepped in it" before. I've even tracked it in onto the rug a few times. It's easy to become discouraged with our alleged "growth" but what I've found is that beating ourselves up only plays into our enemy's intent. Instead, We've got to tap into our sources of love and strength and draw from them the courage to put our boots on again. Hopefully wiser and yes, even a tad bit more humble...

June, wanting to be a nurse isn't selfish ambition. You'll be doing a whole lot of caring emotionally as well as physically. There's nothing wrong with improving your station in life. Knowledge + Understanding = Wisdom. Thoughts for Living

A proverb:

The road to life is a disciplined life;
ignore correction and you're lost for good.

You'll find wisdom on the lips of a person of insight,
but the shortsighted needs to be enlightened.

[The original saying said "need a slap in the face." I didn't like it that way. Thoughts for Living]

How about "a wakeup call" for edit?

This speaks to the wise being able to realize the long haul of life, and the not-so-wise being engaged in the "eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow we may die" mentality, don't you think?

I have no clue what you mean with this statement.

As for the proverb after your response, it was NOT directed at you at all. Just another proverb. If you agree, then you're agreeing with Solomon, not me or God.

LOL Alton, sorry I missed calling you Thoughts for Living. I was referring to Tomi's post (which she has since edited out her "edit" of the proverb) and suggested an additional edit type to a "wake up call" rather than a slap in the face. IDK why anyone would think I was taking it personally. Thoughts for Living I could use a little more love and understanding here. It's good to see even though it is "just" from Solomon and not God. I would hope more of the more positive proverbs he wrote could be posted, those that give support and not complaint or judgment?

Praying for all in thread.

The mouth of a good person is a deep, life-giving well,
but the mouth of the wicked is a dark cave of abuse.
