I never really thought about it before, but I've been doing a lot of thinking on it lately...why do I want so badly to speak about this condition so candidly, when I'm not even remotely comfortable doing so?

I believe that most of us so diagnosed are used to the idea of being looked at askew whenever the S word comes up (in any context), and paranoia - one of the nastier symptoms of it - doesn't help matters at all. At the same time, I feel it needs discussing. Not just for my sake, but for the substantial number of folks who can't (or won't) speak up about it, for the aforementioned reasons. As much as it discomfits me to write so plainly about how I think, feel or act, it is my hope that doing so will be helpful to everyone so afflicted.

I've been tossing around the idea of writing a short book on the subject, attempting to explain how SA affects me, from a personal perspective. I can't imagine it's easy to grasp for those who don't have to live with it, but maybe doing this will help not only them, but others like myself who really want help - who really want to be understood - but don't want to put themselves out there to be crucified for it. If even one person is helped by it, then the effort would be worth it to me.
Thanks for this!

I think its a wonderful idea as well...too many books are written from a medical side of view which isnt bad but doesnt give the reader any idea of what it would be like to live through it or how to live with someone who is.

I couldn't agree more. Also, welcome to PC, Twisti! I recall seeing your name come up in the Introductions area not long ago.

A book is an absolutely great idea. How about, instead of a short book, you could have a few "testimonies" from different authors about how schizoaffective disorder has impacted them? I'd write a short chapter.

Or perhaps that's a separate project... what do you think?

I know this is a late reply, and I don't have schizoaffective disorder (I'm Bipolar), but I think writing a book would be a fantastic idea. There are so few people who know about this disorder. Whenever I've mentioned it to people I know, they either say "What's that?" or "Isn't that just schizophrenia?" Not enough people know about this illness. If you wrote a book about this, I'd read it.

This is exactly what I am looking for. I think it would help a lot of people with this illness and to help the ones who support them. Can't wait till its out. This would help me understand myself better.

I hope so... there's a few of us been talking about it. Might take a bit of planning to get it off the ground.

Gah, where have I been forever... XD

Sorry about the long absence. I honestly can't remember where I put my "domestic woes" thread now, and am too tired to hunt it down presently, but my absence is due in part to related developments.

Long story short, they're separating now, and it's something of an emotional roller-coaster to have someone so emotionally chaotic in the house all the time. I've been trying to make arrangements for my wife and I to relocate, but it's tricky. Additionally, I've been able to secure employment, which goes a long way towards helping with relocation. Strangely enough (as it relates to this thread), it's a job writing articles. Honestly, I'm surprised I got it. Writers are a dime a dozen in this world, it seems. :P

I'll try and pick this up again as I have time, but my free time has been cut severely short from all the various goings-on. What I already have is hardly worth showing at this point, un-edited and pieced together as it is. I've found the greatest challenge to the various chapters is "What am I writing? Who am I writing for?" Without a clear direction for what people expect out of it, I'm not sure what to focus on. As such, it's a little chaotic, verbose and seemingly without direction at the moment.

I'll be on sporadically, and will try and update you guys as I'm able.
