I was just released from the hospital for primarily mood issues; I thought the med changes helped my psychosis too, since they consisted primarily in an increase in Saphris. However, I've had several hallucinations since I came home today, and I was kind of paranoid when I went for my walk today. I took the schizophrenia quiz, which I use to track my psychosis, today to see how much lower my score would be...and the score hadn't changed.
![]() Do your meds control your psychosis? What meds are you on, if so, and what dosages? Does anyone have to take more than one antipsychotic? I'm not sure if this is even worth bringing up with my pdoc. Most of these symptoms don't bother me (and some even intrigue me) but I'm afraid of them getting worse. The therapist I saw at the hospital told me that I'd better be honest with my pdoc about my hallucinations, because otherwise I will "just get sicker and sicker". Scared the **** out of me!

Everyone is different. I respond to nothing. Just the side effects. But I hear voices 24/7. I've been on every antipsychotic except the only treatment resistant one, clozaril, because.. Just too much.
I recently read that therapy helps better with psychosis than actual meds. There was also a study just released about how they think schizophrenia is 9'different genetic disorders. So the medicine we have now isn't the best. That's what gives me hope. Eventually, they'll find out more and make better meds and maybe even a cure. |

I'm on 4 different meds, but the one that is an anti-psychotic is Invega Sustenna (injection) 117mg a month, works wonderfully for me.

I am on 2 antipsychotics, saphris 10 mg 2 times a day and Seroquel 300mg- I take my Seroquel 50mg morning and 50mg afternoon and 200mg at night.. I also take lamictal and lithium for mood. I
do pretty well on these with very little side effects. I lapse into hallucinations fairly frequently but that's just part of my MI. I also get paranoid easily and have limited control of my psychosis but that's just a part of being schizoaffective. My medication makes the symptoms a lot less, but doesn't cure them of course. What antipsychotic are you on apart from saphris. What doses are you taking? kenny |

I'm on Effexor 250 mg and Abilify 10 mg. They are immensely helpful compared to where I was. It took awhile to get to this cocktail (and I'm wanting to add something for anxiety) and it seems to be working okay for me. I still hear my name called on rare occasions. I also see and feel things almost daily but it's manageable. I've learned to just ignore it.

I take Latuda 160mg at night. I was boosting it with Risperdal 3mg, but that came with so much weight gain (30 lbs in a month) that we are trying Thorazine 50mg instead. So far it seems to be working.

The Risperdal I'm on controls my psychosis pretty well, but I still have some pesky delusions that won't go away (fun part of being schizoaffective, eh?).

The antipsychotics I have tried were Amisulpride (400mgs) and aripiprazole (abilify) (10mgs). Both helped with the psychosis and made it manageable if they didn't get rid of symptoms completely. But I reacted badly to them. I don't take antipsychotics anymore. Just try to deal with it myself.

Latuda has helped get rid of most of the psychotic issues of my illness, and Topamax has helped with the last of the hallucinations. It took 5 years to get here.

For what it's worth, I think your T is right about telling your Pdoc. Everyone's physiology is different and it can take a bit of tinkering to get the right drug(s) and dosage.
I take a low dose of Seroquel. It's the only one I haven't had side effects from. I never used to realize how much it helps until the times I took myself off it. The stuff in my head would get so loud and chaotic. Then I'd go back on Seroquel and it'd be like *poof* so much more quiet and tranquil. I take it like I'm supposed to now. One of the atypicals gave me bedtime voices. I kinda miss those because they were really interesting. Don't remember which atypical it was. I didn't list al the meds I take. Due to several different health issues, I take more than 10 different meds. |

How long have you been on them? Perhaps it takes 6-8 weeks for them to work... I imagine everyone is different. I stopped having delusions and hallucinations within a few days, and stopped being paranoid within a little over two weeks, on Olanzapine.

I am currently on Geodon 60mg twice a day. Before that I was on Risperdal 4mg twice a day. It still does not help with seeing and hearing things.
