Hi fellow members,I was wondering if anybody can share their own experience of medications that they found to help with their voices please?
I've tried quetiepine (please excuse spellings) at max dose which didn't help followed by resperidone at a very low dose, which made me feel so I'll with suicidal thoughts, however I do know others have found these meds helpful I do appreciate we're all different and react in different ways.
So my question is which medication next?
Has any of you been on the same meds with the same effects as me? Or have you been on a med that has been beneficial after trying many?
I would really appreciate any words of advice or experience you could share with me.
Take care

I was on seroquel too. didnt really help with the voices but made me less anxious. I had a HORRIBLE experience with risperdal too. Now I'm on Latuda, which works ok, I've only been on it for a week. It doesnt give me any side effects but might be hard to get depending on insurance. Are you doing ok right now? How do the voices effect you? I hear voices too so if you need support, I'm here

Hi thanks for your reply and also the others members too
I saw my T yesterday and we both agreed that we need to start a new med ASAP,the voices are driving me crazy! I feel like its a running commentary and that I'm constantly being criticised or goaded to do something I would never dream of.
This along with the anxiety and M.E is getting me down and it's so difficult for family to support and understand when they haven't experienced any mental illness themselves.
Many thanks for your offer of support,I will add you to my friends if that's ok with you? I will also look up the meds your taking as it sounds ideal without those nasty side effects,I'm in the UK so I don't know if they are available here.
Take care and thank you

I took prolyxin for a long time. It has apparently worked. I have a manageable mental illness now. I enjoy my life, for the most part. I help others survive and enjoy their lives also.

I've been on Seroquel and haldol. The haldol really seems to work for me. I was on just the seroquel but it did not work so well--adding the haldol helped a lot.

I've been on abilify which seems to help me with the voices. I'm on 30 mg. The only thing I don't like is the weight gain. I was on 20 mg without any problems.

I'm on seroquel (200mgs) and lexapro. I was on risperdal and celexa at first but both made me extremely suicidal and it was impossible to get comfortable at night I felt tense. When i switched I felt like crap for two weeks but then leveled out. It took awhile for the voices and psychotic symptoms to completely go away. The meds plus therapy helped. However I will have to wait for the fall to roll around again to see if the meds really help or not as that is when i always seem to snap.

I have been On Quitiapine (300g) for 2 months now, and am wondering what drug is next , as it is making the voices worse, and hallucinations worse. How long did it take for you to change drugs? as my Doc is taking forever to get me off them ! I am here if you ever want to discuss how things are going, hope things can improve for you

Hi there sorry to hear you haven't found a combination or med to suit,I was taken off the tablets after only four weeks but I think that's because of my epilepsy and interaction with the meds for my other conditions.
Of course all docs like us to give each med a fair trial in regards to time and side effects etc but if your symptoms are becoming worse I would personally insist that the doc listened to the severity of how bad these meds are making you asap.
However PLEASE DON'T stop taking them without speaking to the doc first as many things may happen that would make you really ill Ie;seizures.
Take care and let me know how you get on and I will also when I eventually get my new meds. Feel free to message me.
Also many thanks for all the replies from fellow members

I'm on abilify but it doesn't help at all with the voices but did help with my BP for a bit and now its not working for either. When I asked my doc what about the voices he said I'd just have to ignore them!! Can anyone else just ignore the voices?? If we could do that we wouldn't need meds right?? Or is that just me??

As if! If we could just ignore the voices we wouldn't need meds as you mentioned,no its not just you its everyone who has to put up with this illness.
That's the worse advice I've ever heard

Take care

Thanks! I'm glad its not just me I was begining to think there was something wrong with me lol. Seriously though I thought maybe I wasn't trying hard enough to fight them and that maybe I have to live with the taunts and the cruel and nasty thhings they say! And the paranoia they make me feel! I feel slightly better now and shall demand that he does something about them when I see him next cos I'm losing the will to live at the moment. They are costantly there goading me! Telling me to do stuff aaarrrggghhh!! Sorry for ranting!
