I had a good day at work yesterday. I got a call from a law firm in Pennsylvania looking for really old Kansas laws (1872 to 1926) which aren't available on the Internet. So, I happily dug around in storage, pulling out dusty old books and scanning laws and emailing them. Somebody needed me! And not everything is on the Internet - yet.

Actually Monday was a good day too. I had a local attorney leave me a voice mail asking if we had a certain item. When I called him back, he said he'd found our catalog, and we didn't have what he wanted. But when I questioned him, I realized he'd searched wrong, and we did have it.

Nice to know my skill set isn't completely worthless yet. Someone needs me. It gave me a boost to my mood.

We have a big snow storm headed our way today. It should hit after my son and I are both home from work tonight, though. I hope it's not too bad.

Costello, you are needed in more ways than just one. Remember that. And I hope your snow storm isn't bad too either.
Thanks for this!

Thanks, cyber. Doesn't always feel that way.

I hope you've completely recovered from your storm and are doing well.

The President is poised to throw all Social Security recipients under the bus when he specifically said Social Security would not be part of negotiations. Hold on to your hats everyone this is truly going to hurt. According to this plan, over time we will all be eating cat food.

I hope you're wrong. I haven't been following the discussions recently, but if he says Social Security is not part of the negotiation, wouldn't that mean he won't allow cuts?

Ah, I see. I misread your post. So Social Security is on the table now?

Yes, Social Security is on the table. The cuts will be according to the chained-CPI., which means at first the cuts will be small but then compound over time thus decreasing monthly benefits drastically. We're all screwed.

Call your Senators and Representatives to complain.

I live in a deeply red state. My senators and representatives wish they could cut SS even more than whatever Obama's agreeing to now.

Ugh! Worried about my son today. We had a snow storm over night. It doesn't sound like it was much - 1 or 2 inches. But the roads are still really bad. The schools are all cancelled, and even the state offices in the capital aren't opening until 10. But my son's new job made it clear that they were not going to close. Everyone has to be there.

The snow plow hasn't even been past our house yet - at 8:20 am. I hate to think about him making that long drive to work over rural roads.

I'm going to wait a few hours to head out. My son doesn't need to be there until 10, but I wish he could go in at noon or something. Give the snow plows and sand trucks a chance to do their work.

My son just left for work. I'm nervous he'll have an accident. We just heard the snow plow pass as he was leaving the house. I hope he's okay if he goes slow.

I totally understand about living in a red state. I had lived in Texas from Feb. 2003 to May 2004 and even though I was only there a short time and had lived in a progressive city, I truly believe living there contributed to my psychotic break in more ways than one.

Article on the changes to Social Security. If this goes into effect, the longer you are on Social Security the poorer you will be.

It's stressful when you don't fit, isn't it?

I texted him at 10 - when he was supposed to arrive. He made it there safe. The roads are bad, though, he says.

Oh, it's cold! With more cold weather on its way. It's freezing here in my living room. Winter must be here. I knew it was coming, but I sure wasn't looking forward to it. And with all this money being pumped into my water problem, I'm not sure I'll be able to afford a furnace for next winter either. I was hoping this would be my last winter without a furnace. Maybe one more after this one?

My son is finishing his fourth week at his new job. He's pretty unhappy. He's done this work before - answering an 800 number for people with questions about the FAFSA. This is a little different, though. He's supposed to try and sell things too. Financial products, maybe? I don't know. He's not supposed to talk about it. Kind of creepy, if you ask me. It represents what's wrong with the country to me. You call an 800 number for information about how to fill out a form for a federal program, and they try and sell you something. Should be illegal. The other day when I was helping that law firm in Pittsburgh, the librarian told me they could pay me for my help - just send them a bill, he said. Hmph! We don't charge. We're a public library. Oh well, I guess I'm just one of those evil government workers. Anyway, my son is uncomfortable selling, and he also hates that he's supposed to ask personal questions about the person's income.

He asked last night if there's any way he could get out of asking the questions about their finances. I told him he could quit the job or just get used to it. I have to ask personal questions sometimes in my job too, but I know I'll never judge anyone, and I'll never gossip, so whatever they tell me is safe. That seemed to help him some, but I'm thinking he's not going to make it through March doing this job. He's got a nice fat savings account now, though - $840. And every day he lasts in this job, he gets a little more money to squirrel away. Plus he doesn't have to sit in this cold house if he's a work. I'm just hoping if he doesn't make it to March, it's because he quit. I'd hate to see him get fired again.

I wanted snow - but just rain.

If your son does quit - at least he has a bit money and hopefully he will find some better - than he will enjoy.

Lol - this reminds me of being back in school, no one here would have heard this - this is a local thing, well it was.

Yeah, he needs a part-time job, I think.

Is he doing full time now?

lol yeah it's the local accent.
It used to be so popular - hardly hear it now and the police got that club closed down.
