if anyone cares since people dont really post anymore

but i got a letter today from SSA. they said i qualified for extra help. full subsidy. (full pay monthly premium. no annual pay. reduced copay. reduce drug cost).

but then it got extremely depressing to see it say i was eligible beceause i am about only 2000 dollars above the federal poverty level (FPL). FPL is about 11k a year.

basically it hurts to see that ...to see that i am poverty. as in individual...

I'm glad you qualify for extra help but at the same time I'm sorry you're bad off enough to qualify. That really just sucks.
Thanks for this!

Still it really helps to get your medical care paid for like that. Otherwise the little money you have goes to it. But yeah it is depressing. But that's if you had to pay rent and everything.
Thanks for this!

MiMi2112 asked me

Quote:
If you could go anywhere and get a place where would it be? In the best of worlds how do you see your life with no roadblocks as far as you mental state or social services?
i said

good question.

it would be either my hometown or that area or the county where dallas is because it has most resources for everything from health to college to things to do and places to meet people. so somehwere closer to the urban area. not exactly in the urban area. suburban most likely. but NOT rural...

and id like to eventually do something new and find new hobbies once i move. get involved first with support groups. maybe not go all the time to keep it fresh. try to get case management. all that kind of stuff first and then find some hobby groups and exercise groups. BASICALLY id like to fill in my time/life with lots of little stuff to do because i get bored easy. maybe get a college certificate. idk what else ATM.

right now my life is filled a few little stuff but i need more. lots more.

i just dont strive for big thigns anymore. but i have an idea of what id like to do to keep busy/happy. idk for sure. but i have ideas.

idk how long ill have those goals.

last time i had those i was moving too.
then it fell through the second day i was there.
then completeley when i was harrassed at the apt complex a week into living there. not evn. 5 days actually.

im not sure how much 3 years changes a person enough to live on their own if they already tried. i tried this month actually 3 years ago when i was about to turn 20. im about to turn 23.

are there any options for renting apartments on ssdi? besides welfare housing?
i see a lot of places say "income equal to or greater than 3 times the rent"

any semi-decent apt around this metro is 700-1200. thats just decent. if you want good its in the mid 1000s.
if i make about 1100 from ssdi - what are my options?

There are low income options that cost one-third of your income like stated above. You can get a list of these types of housing options from your state's housing/human development department. Also I have seen them listed in the classifieds in the newspaper.
You also would qualify for low-income assistance with energy costs for electric/heat and food stamps.
Do you have a case worker for the recent upgrade in your SSA benefits? If you contact someone from the letter you got, they should be able to help you with a list of housing resources.
I have some experience in applying for this type of low income/disability housing. It's not section 8 housing and it's not considered "welfare". I do not have any social security benefits. I just needed something with my Dx so I'd qualify as having a disability.

idk?
my benefits werent upgraded. medicare just said i dont have to pay the premium. it was a medicare letter not SSA.

all of this is i think this is why i was looking at stuff like this as one point and then stopped. because from i can find i only see spending lots of money on tons of little things. which is LIFE yea...i dont have the money. yet at the same time it would benefit me to not live in this location.

my dad keeps saying "thats life. thats reality. cold reality" and then i feel like unworthy and like a complainer.

if i move i wont have much money left over and could very much have another attempted assault on me. if i stay here i feel like im almost digging my own grave in insolation. if i stay right where i am i could try and commute 30-50 miles depending on stuff to do/the help i need/support groups. but then id be driving home around 10pm at night. some cases driving almost 2 hours back and forth to get places. i could look into getting the food stamps and stuff like that. but thats ssi i think. and idk how to do that. i didnt even do THIS (ssdi).

If you qualify like that for your medical, you'll probably qualify for housing, too. That's the thing with poverty is that you start qualifying for things. If you're going to try again, make sure you apply for assistance with your housing. I don't know how it works where you live, but here it's a 3 year waiting list.

3 years can change a lot. Life experience can change you. The thing is you tried before and it didn't work out. But you can learn from that experience and if you try again have a different experience. Consider the appartments you moved to and see if there were red flags about the people that lived there being hostile. It's hard when you are poor trying to find a good place, but they do exist.

yea i just realized that poverty thing :/

6 months after i moved out of that first one i went to an apt review site and it was really bad reviews. in detail. now i always look at reviews and look at crime report map from the last 30 days in the area.

Yes, this is actually a good idea no matter where you live. It's good to be aware of what's around you.

Poverty sucks. I've been in horrible poverty before. The key is to be smart with your money. Take assistance where you can get it, and just keep in your heart to pay it forward even if not monitarily in other ways. Food banks are good places to get things like noodles and canned food. Having help with your medical is a huge thing.

i am looking at crimereports.com and you can choose up to seeing 30 days past of crimes. everything from the most deadliest to even emergencies and proactive policings. WOW...

im looking in my 10 mile radius. nothing happened in the past 30 days. stuff usually doesnt ever. but down in the next down over theres pockets where there was a crime or community policing or ANYTHING every block.
it scares me to move.

i grew up and lived most my life in a downtown area. but at that age even though i saw police often and knew stuff happened. i was too young to actually UNDERSTAND.
but even still - when i moved here i was so surprised that i didnt have to look over my shoulder for just stepping on my porch. not that it was horrible where i lived. but i was a teen female. small. there was lots of either homeless or random people walking around since i lived in the downtown area. no matter if it was 3am or noon or midnight. there was always people all the single time everywhere. and not just a few. so i had to be careful. but even my dad looked around from the moment he put his foot out the door. plus that yes my neighborhood wasnt crazy but it was mixed with low income housing/welfare mixed in with historical city housing. so on each side of me was people who werent always necessarily bad but then they were illegal immigrants or had records. or something you know?

yeah, those websites are huge eye openers. I went on one that is like... uhm... the sex offender site. There are red dots in my neighborhood. So you scroll over it and it shows the person's picture. Some are even women in my neighborhood. The thing is, it doesn't say what their crime is. I mean, you can be a sex offender for peeing in public even if you were drunk or for you know, molesting kids. Those are two very different crimes.... but it doesn't say. We don't let the boys play outside without an adult. (although we don't scare them by saying why, they just think it's normal.)
