Hi I am in a depression right now along with feeling more bothered by my paranoia and feeling like things aren't real, can't be out in public because everyone can hear my thoughts, etc, so my doctor first increased my seroquel and lamictal. A month later I was the same but had actually had a few really bad days, one where I cut up my arm with a razor, so he started me on .5mg haldol in addition to my other prescriptions

Has Haldol helped anyone? I am very paranoid so I hope it will help with that. I took the first dose last night and feel quite dizzy and nauseated today. It feels like everything is spinning.

The only time I was given Haldol was in April at the hospital. The male night nurse was being nasty to me, and i don't know why. Anyway he kept triggering me and then in a fit of nastiness he gave me a shot of Haldol. It doesn't make you feel good or anything else. My impression is that they use it on patients who annoy them, who cant be given benzos.

I take 8 Mgs of haldol every day. I think it helps quite a bit and I don't have any side effects from it. I think it can be a useful med.

Can I just ask since I have the same diagnosis...What are your main symptoms of schizoaffectice that it helped? Do you feel like you're more like a "normal" person now that you're on it?

It helped with the voices and general feeling. I'm not exactly sure what has helped the most because I take quite a few other medications. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I keep thinking I remember reading positive results with Haldol on a thread in the medication forum.

Well for me I have been on it for years. But I am diagnosed as Bipolar 1 so it may vary from case to case. It really helped me with the delusions that I was suffering through the mania. I do feel stiff sometimes, but its a small price to pay for feeling better. Sleep can be difficult but I am also taking Klonopin to help with that.

It is one of the oldest medications out there and it is still effective. See how it works for you because I have been on it for almost ten years and it has helped keep me stable.

I took it orally one time, in a hospital in a cocktail. They call it a B-52: benadryl (for twitches and muscle stiffness), 5mgs Haldol, 2mgs Ativan. Not so good for me.

Some people swear by it. There's a high rate of akathisia and tardive dyskinesia.

I take Haldol twice a day and when I started it I was so paranoid I had to wear sunglasses out in public and often couldn't do simple errands without a meltdown. I was also hallucinating. I've improved greatly since then and have not experienced any side effects. I was really nervous about taking meds and my pdoc said this is one they use for children and he considered it relatively safe so that helped a little.

Haldol caused me to have disturbing thoughts. It also gave me akathesia. I think it is a horrible med and I can understand why schizophrenics have a high rate of suicide. I would rather be dead than have to keep taking Haldol.
Thanks for this!

I took it intermuscular shot it did nothing for me it made everything 10x worse I refused on several occasions to stop taking it but no avail they pinned me down at mental health and jabbed me anyway. because I had compliance order done by my pdoc first time it was 4 psych nurses next time it was 2 secuirty guards and 2 psych nurses and last time I was in hand cuffs wrists and and ankles 4 cops and 2 secuirty guards and 1 psych nurse and my pdoc saying I was being admitted to the psych ward over the act of non complinance I asked to see a lawyer as I believe my rights were being violated because I refused something that wasn't working.

AT that the time I was labelled BPD so given something that doesn't work for voices, paranoia or hallucinations. My wrong diagnosis for years has brought me to this place where I believe that finally now I have the right diagnosis and the right timing that I haven't hallucinated in 4-5 months now.

its great if you can make it work in your life though!

It helped me extremely well but I gain so much weight (180 pounds). I would love to have it back I was not seeing, hearing, feeling things, or paranoid.

Haldol seemed to be the only thing that regained my sanity back.

No side effects from the 5mg tablets every 6 hours PRN.

They wanted me on 10mg but I said are you all crazy? I'm already on 30mg Abilify! What do you mean Abilify isn't an antipsychotic??

Haldol was rough on me. I did the shot each month and could not stop moving my legs. It was so bad id cry cause it was way worse than a restless legs situation. Plus I had to wait a whole month to get off of it. That's the only downside of the shot.

I've never tried it but I know someone who is doing well on it.

I'm sorry to tell you this, Crazygirl, but when I was first diagnosed as schizoaffective, Haldol was the first drug the psychiatrist tried out. I was on it for months, with the voices raging and the delusions rip-roaring in my head and the paranoia freaking me out 24/7. It didn't do a thing. No effect whatsoever, and the psychiatrist eventually moved me onto Abilify, which helped a lot. They start people off with Haldol because it has very few side effects and helps a lot of people. So take my case with a grain of salt; you might find it helps you a great deal. It can't hurt to try it out!

Everyone's brain is wired differently and what APs are effective or not effective is really dependent on the person. Haldol, for me, has been one of the biggest Godsends since my journey with medication began. It has been, bar none, the most effective med for crushing my more difficult psychotic symptoms.

No, it made me paranoid and gave me disturbing thoughts and akathasia.
