Sometimes I don't know if I am hearing voices from inside of my head or that it's just thoughts that aren't my own.
How can you tell if it's a voice your hearing from inside your head? I have difficulties with this because I have things like thoughts being spoken to me saying things that contradict with my thoughts.
For example; if I feel unsafe, I'm supposed to tell someone I trust but I never do because the people in my head tell me that "they won't care" or "they will hurt you". "They don't care" or something like that.

Is this a hallucination or is it something that is a delusion of thinking that I'm hearing something?
Does anyone else experience this?

To be honest, I think the only way I can tell if it's an external hallucination, is if it sounds like it's coming from a source inside the room I'm in (for example: I'll hear something from the back left of me that sounds like it's behind the shelf.) Sometimes this doesn't work, because I'll have these internal hallucinations but it also sounds like it comes from a source in the room.
It's hard to explain, but for me, there is a feeling I get that tells me the distinction.
For me, if I feel that it's coming from outside my head, then it is, but if it feels and sounds internal (like the hallucination is resonating throughout my skull) and like its a thought that isn't mine, its an internal hallucination. I hope that made sense

I'm not positive if it's a delusion that you're hearing something or not, but I've talked about this same thing with my therapist before and she's told me that she does believe there can be external and internal hallucinations. I thought they existed before I talked to her, so when she agreed with me, it confirmed my thoughts on the matter.

I can have both and having it feel "like the hallucination is resonating throughout my skull" is a good way of describing it. I remember thinking about something and then I would hear someone repeat a word or sentence in my head in a weird voice and I can feel it inside my head. Not my voice but someone of any age, gender, volume, etc. Recently I had a hypnagogic internal voice hallucination as I was falling asleep (I get these 50%+ of the time) where a girl told me to "Get off the ground" which I felt inside my head at medium volume..

So I have sort of a main personality me voice but also something called right brain....it's kind of an alternate consciousness and still me...but it adds a different perception....both these guys sound identical...like me but they come from different locations in my head...the right and left sides. Still me had them all my life no issue. For me the internal hallucinations were capable of whole extended convos and they sounded like somebody else often someone I knew distantly by also various made up people...but they didn't speak as me so much as to me. This is easier to distinguish with full sentences and it sounds like you are getting fragments so the grammar clues might not be there but you should be able to tell if it sounds like you....
