I have heard its very hard to qualify for it I had a friend who has social anxiety and major depressive disorder and they filled it out to get their cpp they sent it in and were told they didnt qualify but I am going to see if I can file for it and maybe it will work but the chances seem to be low for this sort of thing.

It does sound toxic. Can you move out?

They always deny everyone the first time through. She should appeal. With a lawyer if possible.

They denied my sister's daughter the first time too, and she has partial agenesis of the corpus callosum. It's not like she's faking. She's missing part of her brain, and she'll need special services the rest of her life. But they said she wasn't disabled the first time through.

It's almost impossible unless you have schizophrenia or really severe bipolar so I wouldn't compare it to someone with depression and anxiety no matter how bad it is for them. It's not going to hurt to try for sure....

You should start putting a plan together. The situation you're describing is abusive and damaging.

If you're in a slump, you're in a slump. No need to feel guilty for not keeping up with people. Beating yourself up doesn't help.

Do you have someone who can help? A case manager or even a friend?

youre saying to qualify for disability is almost impossible unless you have schizophrenia or severe bipolar?

I cant trust my friends to talk with them about this stuff they dont understand so much but I do have some people I talk to and I do talk to you people on here.I need to get a therapist but the one we could afford who is in range is a male and I dont think I would feel so comfortable because some of the things I would like to talk about would be best understood by a woman.not that I have anything against male therapists i just need a female one to understand some of my problems and it would be uncomfortable for me to talk them out with a guy. but that is why I come on here and spill it all out.

I'm trying to find stats for that but that's how I remember it...I know you can get it for depression but I think it's much harder...and of course you can get it for physical things too.

But do you have someone who could help you apply for disability and find housing?

thats interesting. if you look at the financial subforum of PC you can talk with and see people who get disability. they talk about what they have. ive seen some people there trying to get it for MDD (major depressive disorder) and stuff like that. they find it very hard

i was approved in 2 1/2 months for disability for schizoaffective disorder. even though my diagnosis changes between schizophrenia and schizoaffective depending on the doctor. idk how i got it so fast but i know i had a lot of documentation from lots of hospitalizations.

That's why then, because it's based on your medical record.

So here are some data for ssi in the US from 1993.. About 30% of disability is due to psych conditions and a third of that is for schizophrenia...given the rate of sz is only 1% of the population and around 50% develop a psych issue at some point I'd say sz is really over represented among people receiving disability. I think the original place I read about this was actually on a pdoc board where they were talking about vets applying and it was much easier to get it with sz so some people would fake it right up until the pint they were given an AP. I know it also ties into the inability of APs to be advertised to the public as APs because the gov. pays for so many.

Yeah I know but this is just what I found...I don't think the process is any different just the qualifications needed....the point was just that the percent approved with sz is really high...like 10% overall for something that's 1% of the population...

i just thought about it and i dont think it would be easy to fake sz even for money. and then to say they stopped faking when they were given APs? thats so weird.

Apparently if you're not sick and you take an AP it is just horrible so they will do whatever to stop the AP...it's OK doc I'm not sick anymore or maybe I have something else..the guys were inpatient too....

I could fake it...it's not like you have to do anything but have the right kind of voices but then I know what they are like it would be harder to do that without copying known examples...people actually tend to mess up by overdoing it...they fake mostly visuals, they say things that aren't normal for hallucinations...like the multimodal ones....a dog appeared in the corner and started talking to me. Throw in a few delusions but it's not like you go telling just anyone about those anyway....

Thing is even if I could fake sz I couldn't fake disability I would still talk to people the normal way and be able to do my job because I don't know other than having an irregular schedule and missing meetings what that might look like....I suppose I could just stop talking to people that might work.

But yeah if you have enough info I think it could be done...spend some time on one of these boards where people describe their hallucinations and pick a few to fake...of course you have to be a good liar and not pause etc...I am not a good liar at all....I paused momentarily to consider something because I was confused and it was delusional and pdoc started going off on how we had to be honest with each other etc. I wasn't even going to lie to him, I was trying to remember what I told the people in the hospital about the same topic...
