I joined today in the hope to find some information, hopefully even answers to what is going on in my brain. I believe i may have triggered some kind of drug-induced psychosis. A little background is that i know 100% that i have had 2 psychotic episodes (Due to LSD, and 2ce), and possibly more but i know of 2 definitely. Some more information:
  • I don't really smoke weed often. (maybe once every 2-3 weeks)
I have probably taken MDMA the most times out of any drug and never had an issue.
Taken hallucinogens maybe a total of 15-20 times only had an issue with psychosis twice.

So the reason i have decided to look for information now rather then before is because last week around 5 days ago i had maybe 5-6 puffs of a marijuana joint and about 30 minutes later, some of the early symptoms of my previous psychotic episodes began to happen. This is the strange part; i managed to force the psychosis away by dedicating all my will power to not let it happen. The next 1 hours was me literally holding it down. After the initial 1 hour, the significantly obvious symptoms stopped. But ever since then i have felt minor symptoms of the psychosis like my brain feels very heavy, my heart begins to race randomly, i experience slight hallucinations (maybe 2-3 seconds) that occur few times a day.

Unlike my previous psychosis which lasted 3-4 hours. I felt completely normal when they ended after. This time its just constantly there. I constantly have the feeling that I'm about to have an episode.

Incase anyone didn't understand what I was trying to say: Ever since that joint 5 days ago, I've had all the feelings that occur right before/ at the beginning of a psychotic episode, but i haven't actually had one.

I don't want to see a doctor as i don't think my parents could handle going through this ordeal. My main concern is I've heard of been being admitted to mental wards for more then a day.. i just can't afford to take that risk.

My questions are is this even a drug-induced psychosis? Is it even common to the feelings of a psychotic episode about to start constantly?

sorry if any of this is hard to read. English isn't my strong point.

Thank you in advance for reading/ replying! Much appreciation

Hello and welcome to PC!

It very well could be drug induced. If you can stop taking the drugs you may find that the situations resolve themselves if not you really should seek professional help.

Best wishes
Thanks for this!

It sounds a bit like the feeling could be anxiety... that might give you a fear of something that is about to happen.

I don't think any of us can really tell you whether it is some sort of underlying psychosis being worsened by the drug use or if it is just the drug use itself causing it. I think you have to have had symptoms for a month prominently & continuing for another 6 months for a diagnosis of schizophrenia, which this wouldn't seem to be but even then it's not clear cut. There are many different types of psychosis...

What exactly do you mean by psychosis? Are you having delusions, or hearing or seeing things?

As blwi said, make sure not to use drugs again & go seek some professional help. I really don't think you'd be admitted for somethng that minor... I think you have to be pretty bad to actually get admitted these days.

Good luck.

It was LSD as a teenager that caused my first panic attack. It's a very dangerous drug for anyone sensitive.
Thanks for this!

I was a very heavy marijuana user until recently (3 months clean yay!) weed can cause a drug induces psychosis and can cause anxiety for people who have sensitive brains. There is a good website called Cannabis & Psychosis with a lot of interesting information.

I would seek professional help and quit the drug useage to see if your symptoms subside.

Hope this helps!
Thanks for this!

After looking into my symptoms more i have found them to relate to anxiety very much. Im already feeling a lot better now. Definitely a load off knowing that what I'm experience isn't possible early signs of schizophrenia. I definitely going to stop weed use. Its not worth the chance of feeling of these horrible feelings.

Thanks for your response very helpful
Thanks for this!

It is common for someone who has recently had a bad experience on a drug to become paranoid about the experience having "****ed them up" and they sometimes become paranoid about having done damage to themselves, etc. I'm guessing this could be what you are experiencing, but I cannot say for sure. I had a similar experience but it was LSD that I took, not weed. I had a bad trip and then became paranoid about it for several days after. This does happen sometimes with drugs of various types

this has been happening to me. I had LSD when I was 18 (iv had it since then) but that was a really bad trip. im now 23 and i keep having kind of like flash backs when i get stonned I feel like how i did when i was on LSD i keep having a really powerful paranoia feeling, I see things which arnt their like the walls start to move and wobble like being on lsd and recently when I havnt been stooned I feel like its affecting me when Im sober, I keep having strange thoughts that I died or im in a coma some were diying and sometimes i feel like the only way to wake up or to find out 'the truth' whatever that is is to kill myself. It seems really plausable when I feel like this its really scairy.
