Discovery of novel drug target may lead to better treatment for schizophrenia

So pretty much every antipsychotic is a D2 inhibitor. In some of the GWAS studies there is a protein called DISC-1 that appears to be mutated in some patients. Apparently DISC-1 binds to and interacts with the D2 receptor and a chemical inhibitor of that interaction was found to have anti-psychotic properties. This is interesting to me because it may be a more direct target for some people but may help everyone and have a different side effect profile that may be gentler than straight out inhibiting dopamine.

If this research leads to them developing AP's that don't cause weight gain I'm all for it!

Lack of EPS would be lovely too, I am so sensitive to that it's ridiculous.
