Please state your diagnosis when answering this question.

How many of you see people that look real but are not, that you can have conversations with?

Thanks guys.

I'm just asking as I had an episode the other night and would like some clarification as to wether it's a normal symptom or if I should go have an MRI.

I have schizophrenia and I've never had a visual hallucination like that, although I'm just one person. I'd say to get the MRI though, just to be sure.

Thanks guys,

I would talk but they said nothing back, I kept talking and talking but nothing back. Is that unusual or rare?

i dont think it is unusually for people to have visual hallucinations of seeing people. when i had my psychotic break, i was seeing people attacking me, could feel them touching me but dont remember if they talked to me. i would talk to pdoc before getting an mri.

bipolar 1, ptsd with dissociation, panic disorder with agoraphobia, social anxiety

My bad, I phrased my question wrong. So you reckon I probably don't have a brain tumor?

No, you can get visuals like I had three asian women in kimonos but it was at a far lower frequency than my auditory.....I know I had a cat scan done all the same. I thought you already had an MRI to look for the chip before? They really only look once after that they blame it on the psychosis.

It's all very strange, I hope it doesn't happen again. They gave me an MRI at the start yeah so you reckon they won't give me another one?

They are super hard to tell from reality although sometimes they'll move differently or change spontaneously so you can tell later on, also the not talking is a tip off. My asian women changed from kimonos to jeans in the blink of an eye...

Sorry to hear that happened to you. I'll talk to my pdoc and see what he says, I'm thinking pretty clearly I don't think I'm psychotic.

I had a brain scan etc and it was normal.

Before I see actual "People" or "flies and spiders", they are like waves. Recently when I was stressed out and texting my dad that he has connections with god etc and I don't believe in god. He sent it to my mom and my mom sent it to my psychologist.. Delusions I guess and saw things on the corner of my eyes. That's after the "Shadow people". I don't even know what comes first but I'll give more insight... I'd talk to the pdoc like you said. I'm sure it's not a tumour but it would be a huge relief to know. Idk if Ireland has the health care where you can easily get scanned with a few days of waiting time.

Usually happens when I wake up or walking to or from school. I'd see dead old people, have a newspaper page right in front of me and I read it but it doesn't make any sense, that time I punched my step dad and he fell on the floor and turned into my mom and disappeared, waking up to my sister zombified watching me sleep and she disappears or when she's looking at me limping across the room. People crossing the road far away. I have no idea that it's not real. I would start to talk and she disappears.

Before I was on medication at 16, I was talking to my mom. She was in the edge of my bed and there was no hope in hell that I would realize that she was not real.

It got to the point where there was like 10-20 people in my room and hearing voices of them and I was told that a lot of my voices were about Ireland. If I talk to people, they'd leave after I said something and they disappear when I turn my back. My grandmother was organizing my book shelf and she lives 1000km+ away.

Increase of psychosis for me is when the Concerta wears off, staying awake for two days, stress from school, drinking too much coffee or even low dose benzos.

Abilify works great and it always has until it wasn't enough I guess.

The fact that I can't have conversations at times and I pause and say "ya never mind I lost my thought.." Is weird because it never happened before. Maybe I have brain damage from the benzos but it's getting better I think. I'm taking triple strength fish oil every day. Maybe I'll notice in years but I'm still going to take them.

Benzos increased my voices but I'm certain that 90 of them increased the psychosis and it was already bad.

I usually hear voices when going to bed half of the time. They're so quiet.

But weed? Completely bypasses what ever the Abilify does and bang.. Psychosis and laughing at a thought that people say because the brain changed how I hear it. The word salad scared the crap out of me.

This is one way i know when im having a psychotic episode. For me, its very common. Although my hallucinations do talk to me. Often times its my wife or someone else that i know. I dont realize its a hallucination until i see the real person... Hard to explain, but i think its pretty common symptom of psychosis

I'm schizoaffective depressive type, and I have had visual hallucinations of people, but they don't talk to me. They disappear when I get close to them and I've never tried to talk to them.

Schizophrenia.

I used to have that happen sometimes when I was off meds. When I had my first psychotic break it was kinda a lot for me. but it stopped quickly. I get migraines a lot. I mean a lot. 2-3 times a week. ive had an MRI and they found a malformation in my brain. Chiari I Malformation.

Thanks for your replies guys! I'm just glad this has happened to other people. I'm going to ask for another MRI because I don't have schizophrenia and don't believe I'm psychotic at the moment.

I'm not really sure what you expect an MRI to show. You've already had one that was clear so why would you suddenly expect to find something now? It would stand to reason that this symptom is related to your original psychosis which you know wasn't caused by a brain tumour... it's not like they could have missed it.

Also just because you don't 'feel' psychotic doesn't mean you can't have hallucinations related to a psychotic disorder... I understand you aren't diagnosed with anything but that doesn't mean your psychosis isn't related to mental health problems. Many psychiatrists are unwilling to put labels on people where it isn't definitive.

I seriously doubt they will be open to the idea of a second MRI since they've already given you one too.

I'm just going to point out that as someone who is constantly psychotic in some form or another(this is based on what my treatment team and people who are close to me say), I never know I'm psychotic until it gets pointed out to me and I don't believe it when it's pointed out but I am able to acknowledge that I am thinking differently than most people do, that's about as much insight as I have. I'm not saying you're psychotic, I'm just saying that people who are truly psychotic don't go around saying, "I think I'm psychotic right now".
