hi everyone

i have been sick for 7 years and i usually tend towards instability. Maintainence only lasts for a few months before things start getting out of control. I just discussed with my dr over injection n she said she can try it with the newest possible med Paliperidone. It's as stated on other web, one injection per month. I have always taken drugs orally in the past, unless it's for acute situation inpatient where they use shots. While pills per visit cost me $10 per type, the injection cost $3000 per shot. My doc says I can't be off most of my oral pills coz the other drugs serve other purposes (E.g. mood, sleeping)

If I say yes, she will try me on the oral tablet for a week to check for any side-effects/allergy, before having a heavy dose on the first shot on the second week for the body to adjust.

If anyone of you have heard anything or have any advice/opinion, pls feel free to comment. I would appreciate any contribution or thoughts.

i was on the invega sustenna shot for a long time. the shot is very expensive like you said. do you have insurance that can pay for some of it?? i found that the shot would wear out before the month was up and my symptoms would re-emerge again. i would have to take oral invega to get me through that time. i also developed these hard lumps under my skin on my arms and hips where the injection was given to me. but in the end, it did greatly improve my symptoms. i was put on the injection because i was not med compliant and it solved that problem pretty well, lol

I am not med compliant, which is one of my dr worries. I don't have insurance to cover. I am on no insurance, so it has to come from my parents. I did heard before that long-term injection damages the skin. I am just conflicted. Like I hate med and I don't want to take them, but the injection will ensure that I have taken the med. The med I am not doesn't stablise me very much and I resist taking them.
do you experience much side-effect?

The biggest side effect for me was an increased hormone in my body called prolactin. It pretty much tricks your body into thinking it's pregnant, so I lactate and lost my menstrual cycle. However, I started taking metformin (another med) and it reversed those effects so I am fine now in that regard

I'm on paliperidone injection because I'm non-compliant. I've had literally no side effects from it that I know of, pretty sure my prolactin is fine as I've had blood tests done. Only thing is I can't have it in my arms as it caused the muscle to inflame so I have it in my bum. It's been a rough ride for me on this medication, it took a while to kick in and I've had to keep having it increased as I was getting unwell still while on it. It also seemed to start running out too early in the month. I've been on the highest dose now for about a month or two and I've had some symptoms but I haven't got unwell. We'll see if it holds up.
Thanks for this!

I hope thing can turn out alright for you soon. I am still considering if i m going to try this. The price is quite a big sum and i wonder if it can really help me. i remember taking the oral for a short while but I cant remember why i discontinued. This coming Monday I am to tell my dr the decision. I hope she doesnt make me go inpatient.
