Since I don't want to derail other threads with this topic I decided to make a thread for it.

I was hoping it was all over on their part after I called the landlord yesterday afternoon and they stopped and I had last night and this morning a reprieve.

But then, maybe an hour ago, I heard soft pounding on the wall, then stamping as the jerk upstairs burst in. The stamping was not as loud as it was through last week, but I did record it.

I'm very sad they are not stopping, so far. The jerks downstairs have been gone since this morning, it's silent from there space. I'm not looking forward to their return.

So, here, I'm going to add updates about what happens.

Since the stamping an hour ago, I've heard regular foot steps up there, but nothing else.

Angelique, I am sorry that you have had this experience. People often feel because you have a MI that they can get away with treating you less than human. That is not okay. I find that most normal people are the worst offenders with their indifference, arrogance and hatred towards others. Most with a diagnosis are struggling to gain a sense of humanity and balance. There was stamping again a little while ago, and quiet pounding on the front wall. I'm scared. It isn't over and I don't know what will happen. If the management hadn't spoken to the other floor's neighbors yesterday I'm afraid I would have run from here in panic and probably been in another state right now. Maybe that's what I should have done. I'm very afraid about what they're going to do now.

Luckily I did get a recording of the stamping earlier. I'm so scared.

If it gets bad, call the darn cops.
I have been bullied for years because of delusions...so I get what you say about being scared.
Grab some kind of weapon (For self-defense ONLY, a video recording device and a phone and position yourself in a tactically advantageous spot in case the worst happens.)
Or go full Home Alone on the jerk...

I just heard what seemed to be signal honks of a vehicle outside. 2 short honks together. They did that most of last week, sometimes just before 10 pm and sometimes just before midnight.

Yes, for me the most defensive room is the kitchen because there are several heavy things I could throw or use as a shield or weapon. If they wanted to get in, they could by breaking windows. It would still be several minutes before police would arrive. Thank you for your post.

I got about 2 hours of sleep. I was frightened by the signal honks and the neighbor downstairs banging around, and then I was awakened by the neighbor upstairs stamping.

Since I didn't specify the one upstairs as also being part of it, I doubt the landlord spoke to her on Saturday, so she's keeping the stamping up. Fortunately my recording app picks up the stamping so I can keep getting recordings to establish a pattern.

She was not stamping before the initial night of stamping and pounding on January 2nd/3rd.

^ I can't speak for the pounding, but as for the stamping. I'd be interested to hear if there is a pattern to it. If these people are doing these things at ungodly hours, it seems strange that they would be losing sleep regularly just to harass you.

Certainly if there is a pattern, then perhaps it is some activity or another they are doing.

I mean, how loud is it? Is it like loud footsteps, or is it like jumping up and down? Is the sound in one place, or does it move around? And as you said, is at the same times of day for similar lengths of time?

I totally believe you that it's happening, but I still see there being a rational explanation.

PS - I thought you said the person upstairs had a toddler or something. I seem to vaguely remember you saying you could hear them stamping around a couple of months ago or something. I'm sure you said that.

Before the sound attack that began the second night of January, yes, the person upstairs often pulled furniture around, guessing there's a sleeper sofa or something. There have been various knocks and noises like that upstairs. Not the stamping though.

It isn't like just heavy footsteps, it's stamping. It happens in various areas of the apartment but mostly in the front room where I usually am.

The people downstairs allegedly had a baby, but I haven't seen it in 5 years.

Downstairs lately he's been up, talking, until very late at night. Upstairs, she's stamping throughout her free time.

Eta: when I say she's stamping throughout her free time, I mean any time she gets up from sitting, and before she goes to sleep, and then after she gets up. She's on a different schedule than he is. But they are friends and often hang out together. The stamping is new, and she's definitely doing it to affect me.

Hmm, I really don't know what to think. I mean, I know what I think but I couldn't tell without being their in person.

I hope you get some resolution from this one way or another soon.

i get stomping too, i put up with it and dont internalize it anymore. i bang on my ceiling when its too much and they lower it

I might be wrong, but I think the landlord is offering the downstairs neighbors an apartment in a different building.

Unusually, he didn't put the music on today. I heard someone (who sounded like him) getting out of a car at lunch time say, "It's a studio!" With disappointment. The unit he has here is a one bedroom.

I'm not certain about this, but I think this is what's happening. I would still be left with the stamper upstairs, I guess, but maybe without the group involvement she would stop stamping.

I've also been hearing them whispering and laughing at intervals since this morning. I don't know what they're talking about but I think it's about me, or what they're going to do next.

The landlord must not be around because they just turned on their radio pretty loud.

I'd like to, but I probably need more evidence than just the recording of stamping. Otherwise it's he said/she said and they can lie and the police couldn't do anything without proof they've been harassing me. I probably need a witness but I don't really know anyone else in this building.

I don't mean to be cruel here, but how could you "hear" them whispering? If you they were whispering, you wouldn't know unless you saw them because you certainly wouldn't hear it unless you were in the same room as them!

Right, of course. Well get one of those recorders that picks up decibel readings because that's the only evidence that is going to be sufficient. Noise is the only thing you're going to have standing to you, not what you think is going to happen. Are you not tired of this yet? I mean they're clearly not going to try kill you, they haven't done anything!

I hear their very quiet voices, and laughter. Whispering isn't the most precise word to use, sorry.

Well, let me tell you what happened to me when I had my first psychotic break.

Among other things, I could hear voices that the only logical explanation to me was they were in the flats above/below/adjacent to mine. I even figured that the sound was coming from the vents in the other flats trough the gaps in the walls to my vents.

Eventually, I asked my Mum if she could hear other people talking. (she didn't know I was psychotic) She had a listen & said no, she'd never been aware of hearing people from other flats apart from in the bathroom since next doors was right beside.

So, that's when I realised I was hearing voices. I realised that I neither had heard any voices coming from the others flats prior to the episode.

So, I'm posing you the same question. If you are hearing voices now, even quiet ones... then surely you would been aware of them having conversations or whatever before all this started? Or even other people. Have you ever heard other people talking in your flat?

If the answer is no, then I think you've got to accept there is a distinct possibility that these conversations/laughter etc. are not real. I know you don't want to hear that, but it's true.

I'm just looking out for you. If you are having an increase in symptoms, the only thing that will stop it is getting help.

Loial, I appreciate what youre saying but you are wrong. I know the difference between hearing voices and hearing actual voices. You aren't here, and you don't know this situation.

I have heard them talking down there frequently when their music is off. The issue has been that the music is always on, except for a few weeks a year when they're someplace else.

You are not helping me by insisting this is psychosis when it's not.

Lots of crimes unfold over the course of years, simmering. It can take awhile before a situation reaches boiling point.

I should clarify, I hear them talking before they put the music on. When the music is on, I cannot hear them talking unless the volume is low and their voices are raised.
