I guess the fact that my brain feels under pressure and I have done unexplainable things for unexplainable reasons means that this diagnosis fits me. Still I despise being thought of as a psycho, I think there is a lot of stigma around psychotic symptoms and those that experience them. I understand apprehension with psychosis and psychotic people, I mean I have seen and heard some crazy things done and said by psychotic people, So I understand why people fear psychotics. I guess I still feel people think it is choice on our part that causes us to behave and think in strange ways. I do not try to make anyones life more difficult than usual, I only try to get my needs met with what tools and skills I have.

I believe psychosis is more a state that can happen in the course of mental illnesses like schizophrenia and bipolar or from drug use, but that's not true psychosis. But personalities aren't affected; who you "are" isn't your illness whether you have sz or bp. Meds can help.

People not in contact with reality are a bit scary to me because one can't contact them :-) or know in what direction their state might be taking them. It's like drug users and the problems local jails/police are having because there are so many and their behavior is unpredictable. With limited staff, that's hard to "keep track" of.

ppl not in contact with reality? hmm.. lets begin the count.. lol

stig.. if you can function in a gainful and growing way, prob you are ok..

the number of ppl that are out of touch with reality do not exclusively include 'psychotics' imo

examine your thoughts.. compare them to what you believe is reality... you can make the two connect imo

Stig
Not sure this will help...But years ago my son was dx with that. Never in my dreams was he ever a fear to me or anyone around him
His dx later was changed to PDD OCD. LD
At the time of first dx my thoughts never changed with him.
I am sorry you are feeling bad about youself or that other ppl think different of you. As they should not. imo
Every single person matters and is important.
I am impressed you are useing the tools around you and have learned skills to handle this.
Your right its not a choice...You did not wake up and say hey I want this dx

Here we think of you as stig psychotic features of my personality, I guess...

and as far as "unexplainable things for unexplainable reasons "
heck we all have those days.........
But i understand where you are coming from as my son said the same things.
I also think reality is a matter of whos thinking.......hope this helped
Remember you are welcome here at PC
