Hi all,

My brother thinks he's God. He believes that people around him thinks he is an angel and that there are TV programs about him. Is this schizophrenia or just psychosis. He also thinks that someone may be out to get him because people think he is God. He is so confused.

When he says those things.. Should i confront him about it? Should i tell him he is wrong. When i do, he says that his family is the only one who doesnt believe him. I dont know how to help him. HELP PLEASE!!!

First of all, I want to say I'm so sorry you're going through this with your brother. I hope you know I can sympathize completely, been there done that.

It sounds like grandiosity to me. Is his diagnosis bipolar? It could be schizophrenia, could be psychosis, which consists of delusions and hallucinations.

From experience, I would say not to "confront" him about the things he says. Simply talk to him and ask him questions, etc. My brother is schizophrenic and I've seen him become highly agitated by people telling him things aren't true.

You've got to remember that people who are in psychosis, or are delusional actually BELIEVE the things they say and it's just gonna piss them off if you tell them it's not true. know what I mean?

Well, that's just one opinion though. I sure hope things work out for you and bro.

((((((Hugs to you both)))))))))

Take care,
Kimberly.

Psychosis is a symptom of schizophrenia, but it can also occur in severe bipolar disorder, as well as severe depression.

Is he on meds? does he have a therapist?

I agree that "confronting" on his thoughts is not a good idea. That would be like telling me that Bush isn't president, when I know darn well he is. I might think you are tricking me, or just not understanding what I know to be fact.

These sorts of ideas can sometimes get people into difficulties, since eventually some grumpy person may decide to explain "forcefully" that he is NOT God. So, imho, it would be a good idea to have him get professional help asap.

i'm sorry that you're dealing with this and that your bother is.

i wouldn't confront him with your truth. i don't think it's his truth, ya know? he needs to be dx'ed by a p'doc or hosp. or t.

i've dealt with that issue with my brother but not to the same degree. i wish you all so well.

sending peaceful thoughts...
