I want to take art and psychology.... things that interest me. But with no degree, a baby, still living at home, unemployed with no job offers, no, no INTERVIEWS even..... makes me think that art and psychology are a big waste of time, logically.

i'm thinking about taking nursing courses and this saddens me. because i know I don't want to be a nurse but i also know it's in high demand and i would likely get a job from the training.

i don't know whether to go with my heart or my head.... everyone, including my parents who are footing the bill.... say take nursing courses.
i feel like I have no choice.

How about taking the classes that interest you that would meet your core requirements? They still require core classes don't they? Core A, B and C?

I kept changing my major every semester for two years before I dropped out to think it over. I thought I had wasted my time but when I went back I already had my core classes complete so only had to take those classes that I needed for my major.

yeah thats what im thinking about doing, taking ONLY something that will help me. Unfortunately art classes are more for fun than helpful when looking for a job.

Art classes will help fill the core requirements. I wanted so very much to be a studio musician (trumpet) so I took several different music classes. I don't have enough talent to do that but I fulfilled that part of my core plus I had fun doing it.

You mentioned you have considered nursing. When I started college I had absolutely no interest in nursing because I thought they were "doctor helpers" and they just gave people bedpans and pills as they were told. I didn't understand that nurses had to understand pathophysiology and make their own decisions. But somehow my path twisted and I became a paramedic and then a critical care nurse. If you like science then perhaps nursing might be for you.

What about something like and art therapist? Combining art and psychology?

And Yoda is absolutely correct...you need both lower and upper division GE for ANY degree (including nursing). Art and psychology both have GE classes. Also...you can't just "take nursing classes"...you have to be accepted to a nursing program first, which requires...you guessed it, GE classes and a specific set of science classes!

What a neat idea. When I was in a psychiatric hospital my favorite part was art therapy because I could lose myself in my projects and forget my problems for awhile.

Here is a link you can check out -----> http://www.arttherapy.org/

Don't forget that life gets in there and is different from plans :-)

You don't have to go one way or another; you can do both, there's a lifetime ahead. I "had" to do stuff when I was in college in the late 1960's and early 1970's and it got me a job eventually and took my life in a different direction than I envisioned. BUT, this was before computers and I turned out to be good at computers so my life went somewhere I could not have envisioned in 1966 when I was wishing? Too, in 2007 I got my degree in what I was wishing in 1966 :-) and went on to grad school that I never thought/imagined would/could happen.

I agree that you could probably find things that interest you AND can help you. Have you ever taken those test that show your abilities in certain areas? Princeton Review online has a free one. I have taken a few and they always tell me that I need a job that makes me feel like I'm making a difference like a doctor, nurse, teacher etc...

That might help you figure out which areas you might be best at, then you might be able to talk to a counselor about how to combine those practical aspects with the things you love. Personally, I know I want to teach. I have always loved teaching and helping people. Then I found that I was pretty interested in insects and biology. So I'm taking what I love (teaching) and getting there by practical means of biology.

So if you like helping people and you love art...you could turn that into something like an art teacher. Or working with special needs children as art therapy like others have said. There are always ways to get some practical out of what you love.
