I thought it'd be interesting to see what people bring with them in their bag to college/school.
I have the few usual things, pens, calculator and a notebook or two. I usually bring a book to read on breaks and my tablet for browsing the web.
I usually only bring my laptop when I want to type up an assignment while in college, if that's the case I bring my laptop instead of my tablet. I usually bring my tablet though coz I prefer to do assignments at home because my laptop is kind of annoying to bring places.
That's all I bring, a pretty light load.
What does everyone else bring?

I can't speak personally about the issue, since laptops didn't even exist when I was in school. (We did have to take rocks to throw at dinosaurs .)

However, I know my sons sometimes take food along, especially healthy snacks and water, as well as what you take. My one son spends hours in the library, so he needs nourishment.

Okay, you college students, speak up!
Thanks for this!

All of my courses are in computer science, networking or programming/software development. In my backpack or on my person:

- small accordion folder for loose-leaf papers and any hard-copy material I receive +
- laptop
- wallet
- student ID (security guards randomly ask to check for it)
- charger
- external mouse
- Ethernet cable (some rooms have worse wireless than others)
- pens, pencils, eraser, loose-leaf paper, lead refills & calculator
- snacks, water/pop and lunch *
- glasses so I can see
- headphones
- small stapler (professors hate paper clips)
- phone with cable for charging
- lots of gum
- textbooks (I try to avoid taking all of them because some are enormous)

* = Although I take a lunch, I may also buy something else to eat.
+ = After each day, I take the papers out and sort them into their appropriate polyenvelope folders.
Thanks for this!

Well, its been a while since I was in college, but when I went to the business school in May of 2012 I brought the following:

Pens
Calculator
Phone
MP3 Player
Books
Bottle of Water
Lunch

Pretty boring too I suppose!

here in New York each college instructor writes up a course syllabus that has on it the required supplies and books we will need for the class and an outline of what will be covered during the whole semester including breaking down the course load into what chapters, assignments , papers quizzes and exams that will be done through out the semester.

the week before the class starts I go to the college book store and tell them what courses I am taking. they walk me through the store helping me get the basic standard stuff like that courses text book work book.

then I go to the first class with the books and a pencil, pen and spiral bound notebook, the instructor hands out the course syllabus and I make a trip to the college book store and complete my shopping by purchasing what ever the class requires.

from then on I take to class what ever is required on the course syllabus along with my mini tape recorder to audio record the class time so I dont have to worry too much about note taking. I can pay full attention to the discussion and information rather then wondering if I was writing everything down the way it was presented.

I'm in college, and I live on campus in an apartment, so I only take what I need for the classes(es) I'm going to at that particular time.

I always have:
  • School ID and room key (both are kept on a wristlet that also contains my debit card, health insurance card etc.)
  • Chapstick
  • Notebook
  • Pen(s)
  • Highliter(s)
  • Pencil
  • Glasses
  • Water bottle

Depending on the class I might also bring:
  • Laptop (some classes move too quickly for me to write my notes since I write really slowly)
  • Coffee
  • Snack
  • Textbook

And I usually also have:
  • Hand sanitizer (thanks, OCD)
  • Lotion
  • Ibuprofen/acetaminophen
  • Tissues
  • Inhaler
  • Pads/tampons

I think that just about covers it
Thanks for this!

Pencil case with just some pens and coloured pencils
Tablet Laptop (2 in one, I prefer note taking on that)
Relevant binders for the days classes
Relevant textbooks for the day (I usually only have 2 different subjects max a day)
Notepad (easier for doodling)
Some food
Things required thanks to being BPD that I won't itemise
Phone/iPod
Sunscreen
Thanks for this!

I have a small pen purse that has everything I need. I have a tablet I got for Christmas so I wouldn't have to bring my computer. Headphones are always helpful, and a special folder with sections for each of my classes. An extra tote just in case.

Let me start by saying what I should hav and what I do hav are two different things... oh the joy of ADD.

In my bag right now, I probably have a pen or two down in the bottom, a water bottle, an accordian file with a section for each class (but has old junk in it because I havent opened it in a while), a bunch of random papers stuffed everywhere, etc.

What I should have at all times: a calculator, a notebook (or two), planner, a lunch (i usually end up buying something because I am never organized enough to pack something the night before and mornings are rushed), a pencil, etc.

I commute to campus and hour and a half away so my textbooks and notes are in the trunk of my car to switch out between classes as needed. Lunch/ dinner is usually in a cooler in my car too instead of in my backpack but I always have a snack and a drink with me.

Ditto with SingDanceRunLife, and:
- phone
- wallet
- pad of paper
- recorder
- calculator
- batteries
- ruler
- mini stapler
- pepper spray.

I suppose I'll add the fact that I've added a stapler and pack of staples to my bag along with computer drive used for a database for a project.
