Hi everyone,

I have an assignment due in 2 days. A lot of the work is done, boday is the only day I have time to complete it and asking for an extension is not an option.
I've been trying to get out of bed for hours, whenever I think I've got it together and try get up and do some work, I get hit by a wave of panic/hopelessness/despair which leaves me in tears and takes at least 10 minutes to come down from.
Searching for help online has lots of "solutions" for dealing with depression in general but what I need is advice on how to push through just for a few hours and get this done - what should I tell myself in order to get up and keep it together for a little while? Basically I need a quick fix to get through a few hours...

Thanks
Hugs from:

Hello Carmen: I'm sorry to tell you that, at least in my experience, there are no quick fixes. Healing from depression is a long-term process. It has been said that enlightenment is a journey rather than a destination. I believe the same could be said with regard to depression in particular as well as mental illness in general.

The only thing I have found that has worked for me, in the past, is to simply force myself to make a start. And then, once I have been into the process of getting my work done, it has been easier to press ahead. However, really, what this experience is telling you is that you have issues that need to be addressed over an extended period of time. And so, even if you manage to find a temporary solution to your current dilemma, these sorts of problems are likely to recur again-&-again. I feel comfortable saying this because it's been sort-of the story of my life.

That said, there is a member here on PC whose username is Vital. He came up with a concept he calls "Snap Club". Here's a link to his discussion of the concept. Perhaps it can be of some benefit:

I see this is your first post here on PC. So... to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! May the time you spend here be of benefit.

PsychCentral is a great place to get information as well as support for mental health issues. The more you post, & reply to other members’ posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are social groups you can join & chat rooms where you’ll be able to connect with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) Lots of great stuff! So please keep posting!
