I swear I stress about it each day. I'm currently in my freshman year. I chose media and information as a major because it included interactive media design which I found a little interesting. Was also gonna minor in computer science since I still had an interest in things like coding, etc. I love technology, I do. I'm reliant on it, and it's very interesting!
However, it's becoming less and less interesting. I can't tell if I'm genuinely not interested anymore, or if it's depression thats been making me stray from it. Lately, I've more so developed an obsession with learning about mental disabilities and mental illnesses. But it's the longest I've ever been so interested in something. But then again, it could be other reasons I'm interested in it now. I think it's because I'm obsessed with finding symptoms in myself, which is why I read about them so much. I don't think I'm cut out to work with people with mental disabilities... Idk what to do anymore. Maybe I should take a course in communication disorders and see if I like it? It would be such a 180 from my original plan, but I really wouldn't be behind. |

Many people change majors in college. I changed majors halfway through sophomore year. Had to take a summer course to catch up but that was no big deal. Think about what'll make you happy once you graduate and how you can put that degree to use, also what kind of jobs are available out there and if you'll have to get a masters degree to even get a job (which is usually the case with psychology stuff). I got a BS in accounting. I started off as a middle grades education major. Looked at the salary tables for teachers and that was a big NOPE, so I changed. You're in freshman year, still time to change stuff. Freshman year you're usually just taking lame classes anyways that don't even pertain to a major. It'll be ok.

Yeah I actually wanted to be an art teacher before coming here. But with the arts classes being cut around here, and the salary in general I didn't think it was worth it at all. I think I'm gonna try the disorder class this summer, and a class regarding my major. And choose from there probably. You're right, I am mostly taking requirements like science and maths.

Way back in the 1970's when I was getting my degree, I got my AA in music & had enoygh Spanish I could have double majored.
Then I transferred to a 4 year school for my BS. I got a wonderful flute teacher who had studied under Rampal, practiced 8 hours a day & realized listenibg to the other flute majors that I would never make it as a music major. I actually changed majors as a Junior to something totally unrelated & it took me several extra years but totally worth it. I ended uo graduating with my BS in Accounting Information systems 2ith a Computer Science minor. I ended up with a career as a computer design engineer in the aerospace industry (at that time it was great but aerospace crashed. I pribably wiuld have been better off staying in the business end but it was an interesting 15 year career. I actually liked accounting & coukd have gone in that direction too. It is good to have a major that leads to several possible paths to you have choices when you graduate. The university had on camous interviews when graduating. I had 3 job offers ti chose from when I graduated. It's nice to have a major that has actual related possible directions to go in on graduating

There's two things: first, till the time you figure out your job, there are many chances that it is goona be taken away by robots. There are some jobs which are safe and there are many safe careers list on internet, whichever you think is easy for you, pick if. Or you can pick a college and then see what courses there are good and choose that. I hope this helps.
