I have always used the old rubber band around the wrist trick (snap the band on the inner wrist every time you have an unwanted or intrusive thought) - then replace the thought with a positive one.

Shaking ones head as to say no is also another way to remove the thought ASAP!
... you can say NO out loud if you need.
Thanks for this!

Thanks Rhapsody, I would try that. But I don't like pain.

What has often worked for me is to get involved in something kinesthetic, i.e., doing something that requires movement. For me it's doing something with my hands; creating a project of some kind. It doesn't work 100% perfectly but it IS a great help. If unwanted thoughts start to creep in again, just need to refocus on what you are doing.

I'd be careful of the "rubberband trick." Some self harmers use it to do some form of self harm with it.

This might also be some thing you can look into...... it helped me.
you can replace God with what feels right for you.

PROCESSING FEELINGS WITH THE “SCRIPT”

Spirit, please locate the origin of my feeling(s ) / thought(s) of ________________. (a)

Take each and every level, layer, area, and aspect of my Be-ing to

this origin. Analysis and resolve it perfectly with God’s truth.

Come through all generation of time and eternity, healing every

incident and its appendages based on the origin. Do it according to

God’s will until I am at the present – filled with:

Light and truth,

God’s peace and love,

Forgiveness of myself for my incorrect perceptions,

Forgiveness of every person, place circumstance and event

which contributed to this feeling(s) / thought(s).

With total forgiveness and unconditional love, I allow every physical,

mental, emotional, and spiritual problem, and inappropriate behavior

based on the negative origin recorder in my DNA, to transform.

I Choose BE-ing _____________. ( b )

I Feel _____________________. ( c )

I AM ______________________. ( d )

It is done. It is healed. It is accomplished NOW!

Thank you, Spirit, for coming to my aid and helping me attain the

full measure of my creation. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I love you and praise God from whom all blessings flow.

+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

*Basically, use the same appropriate positive feeling on each of the

three blanks to replace

the negative feeling from the first sentence/blank

_________________________________________________________

~ Emotional Healing ~

How it WORKS...

The place to start is to become mindful or conscious of what you are feeling, what you are thinking, what you are saying and what you are doing. The minute you awaken in the morning, access your first feeling and you first thought. That first feeling or thought of the day commonly sets the stage and the tone for the rest of the day. So if that feeling/thought is not to your liking, the choice is then yours. Right then and there is the best time to change your mind set with feelings/thoughts that are to your liking – engage The Script.

The key to healing past or present negative situations that control you, your life and your daily activities is to be conscious of yourself and what you are experiencing in the moment – what you felt or thought. What we feel, positively or negatively, greatly effects what we think – what we live out in our present life. To deny your feelings doesn’t mean that they are dead or no longer exist, that the energies of those feelings are nor longer present in your body. On the contrary, if feelings are not resolved, their energies remain stored inside you and like a yeast this energy continues growing and expanding, gathering more and more energy – resonating and joining forces with all other similar feelings that are still inside your body. These unresolved feelings/thoughts can never be considered dead and buried because they are energies that are still alive – resonating in you at some level. They are on going until faced, dealt with and positively reprocessed.

In order to remedy the negative effects any feelings/thoughts/emotions have had in our lives, it is necessary for us to take responsibility for them and become accountable to ourselves for them. Even though we may deny our feelings, we can’t sweep them under the rug - they don’t, and they won’t go away if we refuse to acknowledge them. Since energy matter is indestructible but possible to change, so likewise, feelings are energy matter and possible to change. You can change their vibrations from negative to positive. These negative feelings can be permanently resolved. And it can be fun, exciting, therapeutic, healing and rewarding journey – a journey which enables you to tap into your dormant and unrealized true self, your original blue print.

What is this answer to this true and longing fulfillment you may be asking? Well, when you can tune into your feelings/thoughts and recognize what you are feeling, you are ready to use the tool dialogue, the “Script,” as it is called among the world of counseling, that transform those feelings. This dialogue has helped many others come to a better understanding of their selves as well as those around them. It works most effectively when you use it during or after each situation in which you find yourself experiencing negative feelings. Your past negative experiences can be dealt with in the same manner, if and when you use the dialogue, to resolve these past feelings/thoughts. Even though it takes time and effort to accomplish your desired goals, when you are ready for changes in your life, you will be motivated to make a commitment to yourself and apply yourself to achieving an “inner healing.” Just remember, what’s going on inside you didn’t happen overnight, therefore, its unrealistic to expect the impact of years of negative feelings to disappear overnight – give it time – it to will happen.

Where Did This “Script” Come From? At the perfect time in my life a practicing E.M.D.R counselor introduced me to the writings of Karol Truman, who is a very well known therapist, writer and spiritual healer. She is dedicated to assisting people achieve emotional and spiritual well-being through resolving and healing their “core issues.” Issues that if not resolved can and will make you a victim, bound or locked up inside with fears that literally condemn you to a life of un-happiness. This unique dialogue tool was created to literally take the slum out of you and in return you can change your life, your environment, even the world. Your personal strength and direction can then develop from the inside, and that’s where you want your strength and direction to come from – inside of you. God works on a person from the inside out. The world works on a person from the outside in. Using the “Script” as a processing tool will enable you to know and understand yourself better. You do not have to remember or recall where or when the feelings/thoughts started, because your Spirit knows – your Spirit is the inner part of your soul that connects you with God. The Spirit is an important aspect of our Be-ing that remembers and knows everything about us there is to know. This part has forgotten nothing.

So, how do you get started? Find a comfortable, quite place where you can sit, relax and close your eyes. Take a deep breath through your nose and let it out slowly through your mouth. Take another deep breath the same way, only this time hold your breath at the top of the full inhalation for three counts, then let it out slowly through your mouth. (This accesses both side of the brain.) You are now ready to begin. Start by picking a negative feeling from the list - anyone that you wish to work on. Follow by quoting the “Script” and adding the negative feeling you picked into slot (a). Continue on through
the “Script” word by word. When you get to slot (b) (c) and (d) replace the negative feeling with any of the positive feelings given for the word you choose to work on, you may use just one – two or all of the positive replacements given. Be certain you always replace your negative feelings with appropriate positive feelings. If a void is left where negative feelings have been removed more of the same can come back – multiplied - unless the void is filled with something positive.

THINGS TO PONDER….
** Memorize the “Script” as soon as possible so it is immediately available when you need it. Learn to be patient, never giving up – the shift within you will occur soon enough.
** It is essential that you mean what you say and say what you mean when you replace the negative with the positive, for the effectiveness of your process will be in direct proportion to the sincerity and intent of your heart.
** I f you are unable to resolve the feelings right at the moment they happen, make a mental or written note of them so you won’t forget what the feelings are. At an appropriate time, later in the day, you can process the feelings.
** You may say the “Script” out loud or silently – either way works. Ideally, a quite place where you can be alone and are able to relax is best, but if that is impossible, do what ever is the next best for you.
** Keep in mind that no matter when you are able to change the negative feelings to the positive, it will work.
** Do a mental sweep each night before you go to sleep. Think back over all negative incidents that caused you any hurt, pain or discomfort. Address and resolve them by taking them through the “Script.”
** The beautiful part about the “Script” … you can do it all by yourself once you have the understanding. You don’t have to depend on anyone else to help you. This gives you true FREEDOM.

Hi Babysteps,

Saying 'no' when we catch ourselves down a mental path we don't want to go is wonderful.

As is, thinking about the consequences of letting our minds go just anyplace, and not practicing on our focusing.

... the consequences could be things like using drugs, or spending money one doesn't have, or saying things that weren't thought out properly to someone and hurting them unnecessarily, or not accomplishing an important task, or missing work needlessly, or could be any result that is unwanted...

Thinking ahead about the things that might happen when we lose control may be what one needs to gain control, and begin focusing on the here and now...

The snapping thing is great, it doesn't have to hurt you, just a little snap to remind you to get back on course.

All of this is our own biology, so if you find it's more difficult, a good conversation with your Dr. may help you also. Sometimes there are practice drills you can use, or sometimes there may be a diagnosis of ADD or something workable.

Whatever it is, don't fear. Try some simple techniques to gain your focus and practice it every chance you can when you find you are not.

There are many good books out too... and if you ever wanted to really practice the discipline of being mindful ~ as in mindfulness ~ there is alot about that also.

Try meditating, as this is an excellent place to start practicing awareness of yourself. There are videos and books about this also, and you could even go to classes at your local college, etc, or adult center, or some temple perhaps, for some training. Meditation practices are usually free in communities, so try and hook up, if you like that idea. All ages are welcome to practice meditation.

Ten to one, you will love that. It's so relaxing and eases the mind of stress and the body just feels so good afterwards without all that stress running thru it.

Peace and Calm to You,
Night
xoxo

Thank you very much for the advice nightbird. As some would say , only
the stupid ones need advice. Well I don't consider asking for advice "stupid".
By the way, I hate that word. We can never have enough knowledge . That's
how we learn., from others. I was a born worrier and so is my father.
My mother used to say to him " I wouldn't want to see you in a crisis."
I have to learn how to focus on the here and now and stop worrying what
might happen. I will see if the library has anything on meditation.
Take Care of Yourself & Have a Good Night

These are by the same author ~

Thich Nhat Hanh ~ a Vietnamese monk who specializes in mediation and minfulness

*Transformation & Healing
*Out Appointment With Life ( a little book)
*The Art of Power
*True Love (tiny book to awaken the heart)
*Mindfulness (a little larger book)
*Anger (a book that radiates to many situations and how to be centered thru it all)

I use Amazon, write a subject title and amazing things come up.

We are fortunate for all the gifted writers today.

the 'Awakening the Buddha Within' is a terrific zen meditation experience by Lama Surya Das ~ and also a national bestseller.

It is filled with meditations and explanations regarding our responses to life and other wonderful surprises... just wonderful.

Remember, zen or meditation is not a religion.
Anyone can do it.
It is the best organic de-stressor I have ever found.

Mediation calms the mind.
It also helps the body and emotions heal.

A fine practice.

Also, I'll get back to you on more stuff, but I wanted to add, that what foods we eat can affect our minds, our brains respond also to what we many lack.

It's good to make sure you get a good complete blood panel done on you, even if it's not every year, but you may need to add a supplement or something.

Also, lose the MSG. It is so bad for us, I can't say bad enough.

The green veggies and all green foods are brain foods.

Make sure you get in your amiinos too.

A good up to date book on nutrition is important to have in your household.

GO to Amazon and pick one you like... written recently, and read the reviews too before buying.
So much research is going on about the food and the brain, it's amazing.

If you can get lucky and beat cancer with nutrition, I can just imagine all the other things possible with current nutrition... not the govt' guidelines, but the researchers.

Many really cool nutritionist, current with research are writing book like mad to get the word out there, so pick one according to the foods you would like, and another way to choose, is thru what your ancestors ate... research says that is what will not harm us and is a good place to start investigating.

Depression is helped by nutrition, as well as many other issues.

So, spend some time on Amazon or at your bookstore, one you love that gives discounts (lol) and buy a meditation book, or two, a tape, like Rest & Relaxation or go to www.HealthJourneys.com and see what really lines up with your life right now... that's where I get my guided imagery and affirmation tapes ~ plus you get a nice web of info there to help you decide.

Now, if there is anything else I can do, let me know.

I will search out some good topics for meditation, (a great tape you can do it with is good) meanwhile even youtube has some cool short meditation tapes ~ and you can recognize the quality ones right away.

I'll find a good nutrition book for things like ADD and things for brainy foods, (;

Also, I can't tell anyone enough, how tapes help me because it's like someone is right there with you when you cannot attent a class.

Did you know yoga is also good for quieting the mind and teaching meditation?

There are fabulous videos and tapes on this also, but it's probably good to join a yoga class... men and women and children are always welcome, and an instructor can cater to your individual needs and postures based on your body and ability. It's very cool.

So... you can try one thing, then another, and when you find what suits you best, stick with it and the payoff will be what you need it to be.

Best to you in your endeavors ~

Peace,
Night

How Can I Control My Thoughts?

Some tell me it changed their life. They are more productive and successful as a result.

There is a lovely tape I play at night, well, most nights, that is called
Rest & Relaxation by David Illig... he puts me in a good zone, and it has 3 tracks, the relaxation, the affirmations and the sunliminals for succeeding in our endeavors.

To concentrate is an endeavor. A very productive one, for sure, for without it, we bonk out of everything.

So, to do it with ease and eventually effortlessly, is the goal, right?

To de-stress and be relaxed people, how cool is that!

Hi baby steps,
I would encourage you to look at it with a therapist.. meditaion is certainly a helpful thing in ones life and nutrition is also
but if you have adhd its nerulocial and can be accompanied with dyslexia also.

Ive been workig on this stuff for years, eat well, garden and meditate for hours as I garden .

I can't focus . my mind shifts .i lose things and i feel bad because i try so hard.

Do all the things that are good for you ,
but be kind to yourself for having intrusive thoughts and or not being able to focus ..

its not your fault.

I was reading about ADHD and it said that it develops in children.
But I never had any of these symptoms as a child. This is just
something recent. If I think too much about something I start
to believe I have it. I don't really believe a quiz can diagnose
what I have. But I will ask my psych about it .
Thanks Patricia

I have just started a meditation course to try and relax and control my thoughts a bit more. I had my first hour last week and it was quite tricky to focus at first (to stop all the little thoughts coming in and distracting me). But, the guy said that the more I meditate, the easier and more natural it will become. So, I have taken to trying 10 minutes a day for now.

So it sounds as if meditation might be a good thing to look into, to help you control your thoughts.

Just like anything one wants to do well, meditation takes practice.

An audio tape set by Nathaniel Brandon called, The Psychology of High Self Esteem came out some 25 years ago. I don't know if it is still available. He used guided imagery to take you through your life, step by step, allowing you to "relive" certain ages and identify those which may have caused you developmental pain. It took me three times going through the entire set before something significant happened. In other words, during the third listening, I met six-year-old Vickie and took her onto my lap and comforted her. It was, for me, a life-altering experience.

Today, whenever I become aware that negative self-talk is starting to invade my daily experience (and I don't always become aware of it right away) I try to stop myself whenever I recognize critical or negative self talk, ask myself where it came from, and then say, is it really accurate based upon facts or is it simply something that I was conditioned to believe based upon something a parent said to me long ago? It is a really difficult and tedious process! But if I don't stop it, no one can help me. I must quit beating myself up out of habit. <---- Me hugging me.
