Anyone do Emotional Freedom Technique? I've been reading the manual - you can get it free online. I would like to see it demonstrated, and also know what others really think of it. The author, Gary Craig, seems to be trying too hard to use case studies to show how miraculous this is. I have hesitancies about spending the money for the DVD sets, although I'd like to see them. And I'm wondering if this is something to try teaching to others, or if I shouldn't chance it since it isn't evidence-based by professionally accepted definitions.

My therapist believes very strongly in energy work, and taught me EFT early on in therapy. I definitely didn't find it as miraculous as those case studies you see everywhere (I read a book called "The Promise of Energy Psychology" on the topic that had a lot of amazing miraculous and instantaneous examples that I thought were a bit...exaggerated, but who knows?) but EFT is a good distraction, and I think it does help. Maybe it would work better for me if I used it more consistently and/or believed more strongly in it. I use it for SI urges, and while I haven't ever gotten "rid of" an urge simply through EFT, I have made them less strong and/or put off the action for awhile. I don't know that you need to buy the DVD series, really, to understand and even teach eft. There are lots of videos on youtube that go into pretty good depth on how to do it, and show how it's done. My T taught me how to apply the technique in, literally, fifteen minutes. It's pretty simple. Though, if you think you would benefit from the dvds, by all means ![]() |

You know... I am batcrap scared of this stuff. Apparently it can trigger some pretty traumatic stuff if you go too quickly or whatnot.. i dont think i would do it without the guidance of a good therapist.. but then im probably paranoid

When I first saw a therapist, about 6 years ago, she taught me some EFT techniques and I found that they worked well for me. At that time, she gave me a demonstration sheet with the basics on it. After the events of the last few months (breakdown following the death of my father and my wife leaving me), I remembered about the sheet and looked it out. I have since started using EFT again, to help me get over the emotional scars and fears of rejection. So, for me it has really helped.
I also recently went to see a Kinesiologist, who did some EFT with me as part of the therapy to get through my grief. |

EFT is all the rage where I live. A previous therapist was right into it. I found it not helpful except as a means of distracting myself from a feeling. A good thing to do sometimes I guess, but I have other ways of doing that.

I have to say that EFT definitely helped me with getting through the grief of losing my Father. It lessened the pain. I did find, at first, that when my therapist took me through it, step by step, it was more effective than just doing it myself. So it is probably worth having a search for a local therapist who practices EFT. Book an appointment with them and try it for yourself - see if it works for you.

I have found videos on Youtube, and also other sites that offer essentially the same thing even though they don't necessarily call it EFT (like Tapping.com). It helps to see what they are doing, and I think that being taught by someone in person would be even better. I still haven't really put much into trying it to see if it works, and haven't really had something to try it on. Most emotional situations would probably resolve in the time it takes to do all the tapping anyway. And it isn't going to fix bad habits and relationship problems and situations that require actually changing behaviors. I have a headache right now from being tired, and brain overload (trying to get all my paperwork caught up again), and I hesitate to try EFT for that because it feels like it would just make the headache worse, and if it didn't, it would probably put me to sleep. So I still don't know, and I appreciate the comments. Anyone want to share what they have used EFT for?
