I feel intellectually challenged at the moment.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming
(NLP)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuro-l...ic_programming

I'm reading "Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life With NLP" By: Richard Richardson. Anyone familiar? In some ways it's kicking my butt. I can't seem to keep my mind clear enough to absorb it.

Not sure I can do this alone. I don't have a therapist....that's the whole point of buying the book.

I've read stacks of books and many very good books. But a therapist to help me personally, rather than global help offered in books, is what is changing my life.

I wish you success in your searching!
Thanks for this!

Good points both of you. I appreciate your response.

Unfortunately my past experience with the "professionals" ....even as limited as it was....was ineffective. In a perfect world and all insurance companies being equal....I would be tempted to try again, but such is not the case.

As I told a friend recently...I am not so much interested in the "why" anymore as I am in the re-programing of my negative thinking. I feel I need better coping skills...more resilience. I can rattle off a whole list of things that went wrong but in the end I still have to come to a plan of action for change.

Most successful people have similar methodology. That's why I turned to this book. I could be very very wrong, but right now I'm not interested so much in "why" as much as I am interested in change, strength, and stability.

Funny story...years ago I quit finally smoking by taking a medication to assist me. The outcome was a success but I gained a few pounds in the process so I bought a self-hypnosis tape to help me loose weight and quickly dropped 5 lbs. I told my son about the latter and in his infinite wisdom he asked "did you really loose weight or do you just think you did?"

I don't mean to make lite of this...I actually take it very seriously. I just try not to take myself too seriously.

sorry, new to this, so I may have replied twice
I totally get the financial implications, but still, have you considered shaving a session or two with an NLP practitioner, just to get you started?

I got into hypnosis and NLP years ago, which eventually led me to new and exciting field of neuroplasty--the remaking of pathways in the brain through the use of better coping tools. I work with a therapist on this and have found tons of relief for my OCD/chronic PTSD. I also take Citalopram; it settles my chemistry down enough to be able to work the program. Understanding the limbic system (amygdala and hippocampus) made me stop beating myself up for brain reactions I cannot control only manage). Susan Q.
