How do you kno you were awful at it? I like poetry but for me it's not necessarily about how the words rhyme and so on but the message that come through. Sometimes that's a really bright cheerful messge but other times it's quite a dark one. Also practice makes perfect. Share some with us, i bet you are better than you give yourself credit for.

Sometimes I journal, very occasionally I doodle or draw, I have tried to be really there for people who have needed support, but lately I've been feeling that I'm in need of someone.
Someone shared with me that self-worth can be helped by looking in the mirror with kindness and affirming the good things about you. It's something that I've been doing a little. (it's important for the focus to be positive). |

creative things, spending time with my animals, especially my reptiles... there's something about interacting with them that has a very different quality to them than your more "normal" pets...

Crossfit. It puts out fires within me, keeps me mindful, releases endorphins, I am within a community of others like me even though they hide it like me, makes me feel powerful, oh and bonus: helps me look fit.

Quilting. Have not done it lately but relaxes me. The only hard part is when I need to cut the fabric with the cutter and I think of cutting myself. That only happens on a bad day.

Mindinpieces,
You bring up a marvelous question. I think innately that we all grapple in some way with two very significant questions: "Who am I?" and "Why do I matter?" I'm guessing because those two questions tug at our self-worth. Addiction expert Russell Willingham said in his book 'Breaking Free' that we all have basic human drives. Two of which are the need to make an impact and also the need to feel competent. I believe every person is uniquely suited to solve a specific world problem: small, medium, or large. Mindinpieces, you have a very specific skill set; you have very specific interests, and you have unique passions that make you an instrument of well-being and transformation for a specific set of circumstances. When you understand in what direction to "point" these strengths, it creates vision, and vision has the power to change the outcome of your very life, even to save it. I know it can because it saved MY life and helped me move through addiction, abuse, anger, and apathy to a place of more security, purpose, fulfillment, opportunity, and hope. There is more to you than you know. Mindinpieces, you are gifted, and more powerful than you can imagine. Everything you need to change your life is inside you. Keep on seeking, Marius Massie |

Writing - the act of creating a story really is enjoying and I feel like I'm actually accomplishing something (note* I had developed some real resentment for my writing, but it's starting to come around again)
Gaming - yes, believe it or not I like playing MMORPG games and roleplaying games (read: Dungeons and Dragons). Why? Because you're set up to win and the imaginary characters are thankful for what you've done. It's nice to accomplish something and not get punished/receiving negative reinforcement for doing it. Even if it is just imaginary. |

My job is actually somewhere where I feel confident and know that I am appreciated. I also tend to write when I am not at work and that is good for me, especially as Most of my writing I publish on my blogs (I have one about living in the Catskills and a book related blog in Booklikes.)

Climbing, swimming, weightifting among other things. Even just taking a short walk can do the job for me. I've noticed that just about anything that gets me away from my lonely apartement works, although at times I also enjoy my solitude. When I'm alone I tend to spend my time watching movies, reading books or playing games.
I've also been thinking about buying some music production software and try to create some music of my own. It would be cool to be able to spend the time I'm home alone on something productive, plus it would be interesting to see if I would be able to re-produce some of the tones that are flying around in my head. The downside is that software like this is very expensive, and probably very complex to use. Oh well, it's just a thought. |

Like others, I like to use my time creatively when I can. Writing/journaling, drawing, etc. I also like to exercise and dance often. And since I like to video game, I've found a site that holds gaming nights a couple of times a week. I participate in them when the time allows. It's been a nice experience.

Creating artwork gives me a sense of self worth, that and being kind to others.

My work gives me great satisfaction (even my volunteer work). I also write poetry and collect crystals (something I'm very passionate about). For a better sense of worth, I also have this list of beautiful things people have said to me - it really helps me in my worse moments.Another thing I do is sing - not particularly well but I love doing it

There are many ways one can explore the thoughts and dreams that may add to a feeling of self worth. Each individual may have a few to a handful to many more outlets that bring about a "feel good" feeling - a "feeling" of accomplishment and pride in oneself. Start small - maybe even clay - there is something about squishing, molding, blending, baking......or paint - the vivid, bright hues or the subtle washes - there are so many medias to play with and the good thing is - you don't have to be perfect to have it right, to have the feeling be right inside when you are using it. I once heard that if you lose yourself in something that you find enjoyment then that is all the praise you need. Good luck!

I create artwork as a way to help me cope and express all that goes on in my life. The pieces don't have to be perfect or particularly beautiful, but I make sure to put all my energy into the work itself, enjoying that as much as I can. The finished product has meaning for emotions/thoughts the concentration got me past and I always feel better and like I've accomplished something I can be proud of on my own.

I do yoga, for my mind and body, mostly for my mind, there is no way to explain it unless you give it a try. I also do pole fitness, I find it hard to do any type of fitness but this seems to be interesting and effective for all body muscles.
