I'm beginning to turn in a genuine work-a-holic. I work my online job all day and I feel the need to work on my other projects afterwards in to the night....and then there's housework and chores and many, many other things I need to do. Never stops. And the weird thing is, it doesn't really bother me. It keeps most of the thinking at bay.

I do have a favor to ask. If anyone knows of any good place to promote by blogs, particularly the Extreme Email one, please let me know. I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere with it at all and it's gotten very frustrating. The other one has taken off a bit. The other one is still sputtering on the ground. These projects mean a lot to me and any suggestions would be greately appreciated.

Also, if anyone is willing to take a look at them and if you see merit in them or know of anyone who might be interested in taking a look, pass them on. I'd greatly appreciate it....more than you know, and in that way, I'd feel as though my goals are slightly closer to being accomplished and maybe I can actually relax someday. My book project: Extreme Emails, and my one about the differences between Idaho and Florida: A Southern Swamp Rat in the High Desert

Thank you for listening to my rant, and have a good day.

I've been there. I threw myself into work and school as a way to cope. It helped for a while, but I got very emmotionally numb and I felt like a zombie most of the time. I guess that is only slightly better than feeling depressed. I think too much work, eats away at who you are and you lose a sense of yourself. I hope you can take a few mintues each day to do something that makes you feel happy.

I know how you feel.
I use work and school as a distraction from all the other unpleasant things going on.
It feels like once you start work, you just get into some sort of "zone" where you're in control of everything.
I like that.

Its a nice change for once =)

Doing something fun everyday also helps to boost productivity (in my case, I go MTBiking every morning)

Cheers

I feel the same at times. Being self employed, working online... it seems like there is something that HAS to be done. For me it's just a matter of self control, but I've been struggling with it for going on 10 years now. You're not alone.

I don't know of a place, sorry, but have you been thinking about this in terms of marketing? I mean marketing is a whole field of specialization with different concepts and approaches you could apply. I don't know much about it, but I know it is important in the world of publishing or selling anything. I have sold writing in the past, and learning how to pitch stuff and how to research who to pitch it to is a particular skill that requires focused application. So if you haven't explored the field of marketing in respect of publishing, I thought this suggestion might be useful to you. It is a lot of work following it up, but since you are a workaholic - bingo!

Edit: there was a book "how to publish and promote online" ten years ago, and I'm sure there are many such more uptodate books now. (Awkward phrasing, but I must run.)

I've come up with a few things I'm going to try. I'm going to start a Facebook account strictly for my blogs (I won't do Facebook on a personal level) and I also have a few other sites to investigate. I intend to work on it my next day off from my "paying" job. I work from home, but need several hours of uninterrupted time to feel like I can really get in to it. Thanks for everyone's support.
Thanks for this!

Oh, and one tip from someone who has sold their writing and, like you, has taught English: whenever you are writing something to an audience, the purpose is an important factor in shaping it. If you can clarify the purpose of your project, and the benefits to whatever audience you envision for it, that should really help focus the marketing.

The problem with my book blog is that it doesn't have a really focused audience. It's a mishmash of different things. Most of it funny or amusing, but it's been very hard to market for that reason. My Idaho blog has been much more successful so far specifically for that reason: I have an intended audience and it has benefits for that audience. The other one, while I believe is a good project and most people enjoy it once they take a look at it, it's very nebulous on where it belongs and it has had a hard time finding a "home"....

SUBLIMATION, that is what Freud called it, working as a way of taking horrible feelings and turning the energy to a positive direction.
you are welcome.
