To be clear, I have never really had a problem with my weight. I walk everywhere and I do a lot of physical activity at work, so while I have not been the healthiest individual, I have always been able to avoid the dangerous problem of becoming too rotund by simply not being active.
However, in the past couple of weeks I have made some healthy changes. I've cut soda out of my diet completely. I've started adding more coffee to my pot of hot water and sugar every morning and I am making more conscientious decisions about the amount of physical activity I do every day. For example, squat thrusts are a simple and easy exercise that do not bother my neighbors in the apartment below me. I have also made an effort to walk either to or from work. Some days I just have to take the bus, but when I do walk, I power walk. I also try to change up the route I walk so that there's more uphill walking and occasionally I'll do a sprint or too. My goal is to basically get rid of my belly, which has been with me since my teens. |

This is so good and positive as you know that exercise is good for the spirit as well as the loss of body fat! I am a lard butt. Been heavy since I was 6 years old. But depression makes the problem so much worse. From overeating to not eating for days on end. I joined the gym but after recently losing my job I have no motivation to go the gym but was going 3-4 a week when I had the job. Your story made me remember how I was lucky to even have a desk job for the first time in my life even if I did lose it. Although I lived very close to work I still drove there and yet many people have to walk to work or cannot even afford a gym membership. Dang it I need to move my butt to the gym and start focusing on me and say screw you negative depression. I am going to go places even if I just sit around and gap out on people and then when people give me dirty looks I will just turn around and show them my butt! ")

Well, one thing I've been doing is going heavy on the fruits and veggies and keeping a close eye on the ingredients of food. I've also been eating a lot of eggs for breakfast, cause, sorry the cholesterol myth doesn't phase me. The Incredible Edible Egg wins out every time.

You know, I but the eggs and they just languish in the fridge. I need to be eating more egg and far less potato and mac&cheese. I am somewhat an idiot about food. I was starting to be so good with diet and working out and with the sudden loss of a serious job at age 40 I crumbled down. Now I crave garbage food, ice cream and I am so lazy (but it's not a choice thing). I am working on this with a psychologist so I hope to be better soon. I do know oatmeal is magic with an apple each day if you can stick with the routine! Then lots of water and fistfuls of certain nuts throughout the day.

Sometimes you can find opportunities to sneak exercise in. For example, nearly every time I have to pick something up off the floor I slip in a squat thrust.
Whenever I'm carrying groceries home, I left the bags a few times as though I were doing a rep with weights. It's basically the same thing and on average a bag of groceries can be about five to ten pounds on each arm. |
