Does anyone make any sort of New Years Resolutions or do anything differently today/tomorrow?
I have several things (school classes) that start in a few weeks and ones that are finishing up and in a couple months I go back to the doctor (so want to lose some weight and work on a couple other goals) and I just find it easy to start "fresh" again with the new year. I'm going to spend some time today working in my journal getting some organization on paper (what's due, when) and organizing it in my head in a simple fashion so I can start working on things from my mental checklist :-)

i'm planning on standing up more for myself. that might be hard to believe, but i can be a pushover...at all the wrong times.....
i want to be more creative. do my photography.....push it, sell it...get out there with it. keep my house more organized. be better to myself..... |

When I bother, I prefer to think of the list as goals, rather than resolutions, and I like to check in on them at least once during the year to see how I'm doing and strengthen my plans.

I want to focus more on my school work, try and be healthier (physically and mentally) ... and really try and work on not letting myself get the best of myself ... if that makes sense! (i.e. try not to worry as much as i do - good luck on that one eh?!)

SAdly the new year find me with not sleep at all (and I'm not partying`) and without a gram of energy. I hope this changes tomorrow!

Yes, I woke today not feeling too well either and am hoping tomorrow will be better. I looked at "January 1" from all directions too and thought it sort of silly to pick that particular day over some other like it's "special" and more worthy of new beginnings. Interestingly I've been paying attention to TV commercials the last day or two and they're all for starting diets and quitting smoking, exercise/fitness equipment etc. (and the products you NEED to help you do any of those things :-)
Hope we feel better tomorrow biplol :-)

Honestly, I was meditating on the meaning of the new year, and it's hard for me to buy into all the fuss that's made just because the calendar page turns. I understand holidays -- what Christmas and Hanukah and so on, celebrate. But an arbitrary calendar date, people wearing silly hats, getting drunk, etc. -- I don't get it. If we want to change, we can make a resolution, turn over a new leaf, make a fresh start -- whenever we are ready.

Isn't the new year a good time to decide on your own issues that need attention? It is to me. I think this is especially so because there are OTHERS who are making resolutions and many ppl find that supportive for themselves too.
Why not use this time to decide what issues you wish to work on, the "self help" items?

I need to do my school work this semester and get my GPA up from my lousy 2.7. I also need to find a place in the fall, but thats not really a resolution. Anyone in the Austin area want an 18 yr old bunk buddy? hehehe
Oh, yeah, also, have a set schedule, and not be up at 4:42 am like I am right now, yeah. I need to pick myself up and put me into bed.

There are a couple of skills that can smooth the way for assertiveness: Assertiveness training, "I" messages, and expressing anger constructively in chapter 13. Let me know if anything helps you. This is a good skill to have. drclay

I was working yesterday; my day, now that I'm retired, seems to fall into various "parts" and there are a couple difficult parts, especially after "Noon" to dinnertime. I get to watching daytime TV and that's not good :-)
So, I decided to make a list of other things I "want" to do and now I have switched my computer time from morning when I first get up (I have a tendency to get on at 8:30 or so and stay on until I run down and enter the "danger" time) to the difficult time after lunch/now. That way all the stuff I enjoy doing on the computer, all my school work, conversations here and elsewhere, etc. I'll have to enjoy during what is normally a too quiet, not enough good "distraction" time. In the morning when I get up all full of vim and vigor and more active, I can work on the things on my list which aren't as appealing later in the day. Today I got a book mailed to a friend that I finished reading in November and put aside then to mail to her, wrote a nice little note to her first, too. I didn't quite make it to my afternoon time though before I couldn't stand it anymore and came on the computer :-) but I like the idea and the list I'm making of "little" tasks that I think I genuinely would enjoy doing (figuring out what storage "boxes" to buy at the stationary store and what to put in them, etc. and how to organize my too many books, etc.); I have a friend in prison I send a postcard to every day and have figured out how to make my own postcards but often it takes me a long time to get around to taking pictures I want to put on the postcards -- I have a couple thought of now and just need to "do it" plus my genealogist across country I'm going to see in the Spring needs more scanning of the letters I have so she can help me; projects like that which would be simple and fun if I were "forced" to do them :-) I think rearranging my times will help me twofold that way, give me my better morning hours for the little things I put off and my harder afternoon for the automatic/built-in things I enjoy like school work and working online that don't need much if any pressure to get me to do.

You mentioned having a client to work with...a pregnant lady...how is that going? How do you advertize your services and skills? What do you want to do at home--clean? fix up? buy? OK, so what resolutions are you working on to change? Have you set up a system to measure your progress? I read somewhere last week that measuring change was one of the ingredients of successful change. How is the puppy doing? Has he/she won your heart yet? drclay
