Good news for you! All that consistent flossing is clearly helping and if you add brushing to the mix, it will be even better!
Did the 2nd brushing today.

2nd brushing today
My son is visiting from Canada. He is not using a suitcase when he travels, just a carry-on, so I cannot send back with him toothpaste (the kind of toothpaste which is very expensive in Canada, much more so than in the US). What I will send with him is a supply of dental floss and dental tape. It can do go into the carry-on. Something is better than nothing. Hooray for dental care.

A dental care package for your son sounds like a nice idea.
Flossed and brushed yesterday. The bathroom on our second floor is finally finished, so now I don't have the excuse that it's a pain to go down 2 flights of stairs to brush. I'm going to make a concentrated effort to brush, post this last dental checkup, like I did with flossing after the preceding visit. I also have the prescription mouthwash that I have to use. Stopping the gum itching will also be good motivation.

Here is my chatting with ChatGPT about these issues. Note that ChatGPT sometimes makes things up, so what it says should not be believed without fact-checking with reputable sources.
*** user (me) is it true that one needs to wait for 30 minutes after brushing teeth with fluoride toothpaste before consuming any food or liquid? the idea is that you need to let fluoride do its magic in your mouth ChatGPT Yes, it is recommended to wait for at least 30 minutes after brushing your teeth with fluoride toothpaste before consuming food or beverages. Fluoride toothpaste is effective in preventing tooth decay and strengthening enamel, but the waiting period allows the fluoride to remain on your teeth and do its work without interference. Consuming food or drinks immediately after brushing may wash away the fluoride before it has a chance to provide its full benefits. Waiting for 30 minutes allows the fluoride to be absorbed by the enamel, providing a protective effect. It's worth noting that if you're using a fluoride mouthwash, it's generally recommended to use it at a different time than when you brush your teeth to maximize its effectiveness. As always, it's a good idea to follow the specific recommendations of your dentist or dental care professional based on your individual oral health needs. User I assumed that about a fluoride mouthwash but did not know for sure. Appreciate your advice in this matter. ChatGPT You're welcome! I'm glad I could provide helpful information. If you have any more questions or if there's anything else I can assist you with, whether it's related to oral health or any other topic, feel free to ask. Take care of your oral health, and if you're heading to the gym or have any more plans for the day, I wish you a great time! 😊🦷💪 User let us talk more about oral health. How much do you need to wait between eating/drinking and brushing your teeth with fluoride toothpaste? ChatGPT The general recommendation is to wait at least 30 minutes after eating or drinking before brushing your teeth with fluoride toothpaste. This waiting period allows your saliva to naturally neutralize acids in your mouth and for the enamel to re-mineralize before brushing. Brushing immediately after consuming acidic foods or drinks can potentially contribute to enamel erosion because the acids soften the enamel temporarily. However, it's important to note that the specific timing may vary based on individual factors and the nature of what you've consumed. For instance: Acidic Foods and Drinks: If you've consumed something highly acidic (such as citrus fruits, soda, or vinegar-based foods), it may be beneficial to wait a bit longer before brushing to give your saliva more time to neutralize the acids. Neutral or Alkaline Foods: If you've eaten foods that are not acidic, the 30-minute waiting period is generally sufficient. Sensitive Teeth: Individuals with sensitive teeth might find it helpful to wait longer, as immediate brushing may exacerbate sensitivity. In some cases, it might be practical to rinse your mouth with water after consuming acidic foods or drinks to help remove some of the acid before brushing. Remember, maintaining a consistent oral hygiene routine, including regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups, is crucial for overall oral health. If you have specific concerns or conditions, it's always a good idea to consult with your dentist for personalized advice. User here is what I do. first thing in the morning, I floss carefully, then scrape my tongue, then brush for two minutes with an electric toothbrush. Then, when I come home from work, I brush for 2 minutes using a manual toothbrush. In both cases, I wait 30 minutes after brushing before consuming liquids or foods. Does it sound like a good regimen to you? ChatGPT Your oral hygiene regimen sounds quite thorough, and you're incorporating key elements for maintaining good oral health. Here are some positive aspects of your routine: Flossing: Starting your morning routine with flossing is excellent. Flossing helps remove plaque and debris from between the teeth and along the gumline, contributing to gum health. Tongue Scraping: Scaping your tongue is a good practice for reducing bacteria and improving breath freshness. Electric Toothbrush: Using an electric toothbrush for your morning routine can provide effective cleaning, and the recommended two minutes of brushing is beneficial. Manual Toothbrush: Adding a manual toothbrush to your evening routine offers a different brushing experience and ensures comprehensive cleaning. Waiting Period: Waiting for 30 minutes after brushing before consuming liquids or foods aligns with the general recommendations to allow fluoride to work on your teeth without interference. A couple of additional considerations: Fluoride Toothpaste: Ensure that the toothpaste you're using contains fluoride, as it plays a crucial role in preventing tooth decay and strengthening enamel. Regular Dental Check-ups: Regular visits to your dentist for check-ups and cleanings are essential for maintaining optimal oral health. Overall, your routine seems well-rounded, and your commitment to oral hygiene is commendable. If you ever have specific concerns or if your dentist recommends any adjustments based on your individual oral health needs, it's a good idea to follow their advice. Keep up the good work! 😊🦷✨ User yes, I use several varieties of fluoride toothpaste, rotating through them. I use prescription strength sodium fluoride toothpaste, I use over-the-counter sodium fluoride toothpaste with a high content of xylitol, and I brush with over-the-counter stannous fluoride toothpaste. I also use xylitol mints during the day and sometimes (infrequently) use xylitol mouthwash. ChatGPT It's clear that you are very proactive and diligent about your oral health, incorporating a variety of fluoride toothpaste options and xylitol products into your routine. This multifaceted approach can offer benefits for preventing tooth decay, strengthening enamel, and maintaining gum health. Here are some positive aspects of your oral care routine: Prescription Strength Sodium Fluoride Toothpaste: This type of toothpaste can provide an extra boost of fluoride, which is particularly beneficial for individuals with a higher risk of cavities. Over-the-Counter Sodium Fluoride Toothpaste with Xylitol: Xylitol is a sugar substitute that can help reduce the risk of cavities. Combining it with fluoride toothpaste enhances its effectiveness in preventing tooth decay. Over-the-Counter Stannous Fluoride Toothpaste: Stannous fluoride is another fluoride compound known for its antimicrobial properties, which can contribute to gum health and plaque control. Xylitol Mints: Using xylitol mints throughout the day is a convenient way to stimulate saliva flow and help maintain a neutral pH in your mouth, supporting overall oral health. Xylitol Mouthwash: Incorporating xylitol mouthwash infrequently can provide an additional layer of protection against cavity-causing bacteria. It's clear that you've taken a comprehensive approach to your oral care, and the variety in your routine can be beneficial for targeting different aspects of oral health. Remember to stay consistent with your routine and maintain regular dental check-ups to ensure that your oral health is on track. If you ever have specific questions or concerns about your oral care routine, it's always a good idea to discuss them with your dentist, who can provide personalized advice based on your individual needs and goals. Keep up the great work in prioritizing your oral health! 😊🦷✨ User would you say that for using fluoride mouthwash, I need to observe the same timeframe of at least 30 minutes after and before eating/drinking? ChatGPT Yes, a similar principle applies to fluoride mouthwash as it does to fluoride toothpaste. It's generally recommended to wait at least 30 minutes after using fluoride mouthwash before eating or drinking. This waiting period allows the fluoride to remain in contact with your teeth, providing optimal benefits for strengthening enamel and preventing tooth decay. Using fluoride mouthwash right before eating or drinking could potentially wash away the fluoride, reducing its effectiveness. Waiting for a brief period allows the fluoride to interact with your teeth and contribute to maintaining a healthy oral environment. As with any oral care product, it's a good idea to follow the specific recommendations provided on the product label. If you have specific questions or concerns about the use of fluoride mouthwash in your oral care routine, your dentist can offer personalized advice based on your individual needs and oral health goals. User what can you tell me about Japanese toothpaste touted for remineralization benefits? ChatGPT Japanese toothpaste brands often emphasize oral health, and some products are promoted for remineralization benefits. Remineralization refers to the process of restoring minerals to the enamel of the teeth, which can help strengthen and repair weakened areas. While specific formulations may vary among Japanese toothpaste brands, some common features and ingredients may contribute to remineralization: Fluoride: Many toothpaste formulations around the world, including Japan, contain fluoride. Fluoride is a key mineral that helps prevent tooth decay and promotes remineralization by enhancing the enamel's resistance to acid attacks. Calcium and Phosphate: Some toothpaste brands include calcium and phosphate compounds, which are essential minerals for tooth health. These minerals can potentially contribute to remineralization by replenishing the tooth's mineral content. Xylitol: Xylitol is a sugar substitute known for its ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria that cause cavities. Some toothpaste formulations include xylitol to promote a healthy oral environment. Hydroxyapatite: Hydroxyapatite is a naturally occurring mineral in teeth. Some Japanese toothpaste products highlight hydroxyapatite as a remineralizing agent, suggesting that it may help repair and strengthen enamel. It's important to note that the effectiveness of toothpaste for remineralization can vary based on individual factors, and the overall oral care routine plays a crucial role. Regular dental check-ups, proper oral hygiene practices (including brushing, flossing, and a balanced diet), and consistent use of fluoride-containing products are fundamental for maintaining optimal oral health. If you're interested in a specific Japanese toothpaste for remineralization, it's a good idea to check the product's ingredient list and look for endorsements from dental professionals or regulatory bodies. Additionally, consulting with your dentist can provide personalized guidance based on your unique oral health needs. User I use a Hydroxyapatite toothpaste in the afternoon. In the morning, I rotate through the toothpastes I mentioned above. I also sometimes use Hydroxyapatite tablets which upon chewing become mouthwash and then I swish it in my mouth. ChatGPT It sounds like you've implemented a diverse and thoughtful approach to your oral care routine, incorporating various toothpaste formulations and even hydroxyapatite tablets for potential remineralization benefits. Here are some key points about your routine: Hydroxyapatite Toothpaste: Hydroxyapatite is a mineral naturally present in tooth enamel, and using a toothpaste containing hydroxyapatite is believed by some to contribute to remineralization and enamel repair. Rotation of Toothpaste Brands: Rotating between different fluoride toothpaste brands can provide a range of benefits, including exposure to different formulations and flavors. Fluoride is a key component for preventing tooth decay and supporting enamel health. Xylitol Mints: The use of xylitol mints can contribute to maintaining a neutral pH in your mouth and inhibiting the growth of cavity-causing bacteria. Xylitol is known for its potential benefits in preventing cavities. Hydroxyapatite Tablets/Mouthwash: Chewing hydroxyapatite tablets that transform into a mouthwash offers a unique approach. If the tablets contain hydroxyapatite and other beneficial ingredients, they may provide additional support for oral health. It's clear that you've put thought into creating a comprehensive oral care routine that includes various elements associated with remineralization and overall dental health. As with any oral care routine, it's beneficial to stay consistent, and regular dental check-ups are crucial for assessing your oral health and receiving professional guidance. If you have specific questions about the effectiveness of certain products or if you'd like personalized advice tailored to your unique oral health needs, consider discussing your routine with your dentist. They can provide insights and recommendations based on your individual situation. Keep up the excellent work in prioritizing your oral health! 😊🦷✨

Interesting responses from Chat GPT.
When I was at the dentist this past week, they gave me a fluoride month rinse. They told me to wait 30 min before eating or drinking anything. Managed to brush and floss yesterday. I'm going to sign up for another 5 days of the Tiny habits email program to help me keep it going.

Flossed and brushed yesterday. The midday brushing seems to work better for me than trying to do it at night.

I am back on track: flossing/scraping/brushing and then 2nd brushing. It was not easy and I had to push myself. Hopefully tomorrow it won't require pushing myself but will happen more smoothly.
