I can't stop breathing chemicals, I get strong urges to get it in my system, it set's my mind free and I forget about everything.

The problem is, I'm forgetting the stuff I should remember like important dates, I can't even do math in my head anymore, I need a calculator to do it. And a few times driving home from work I forgot where I lived and had to stay parked on the side of the road till I remembered.

The reason it's so hard to stop is because I'm an Auto body repairer & Painter so I work with dozens of
chemicals everyday.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to stop?

Hi Jay, you say that you do the chemicals so that you can forget everything. You will be able to stop this addiction if you go to therapy so that you can remember and deal with what you are trying to forget.

Sannah,

Thanks, but I'm not sure I can handle going to therapy though.... I don't want to break down in front of anyone.

Maybe I should just start cutting & burning again, at least that doesn't cause as much damage as the chemicals.

There is nothing wrong with "breaking down" in front of a therapist. I certainly have many times on my journey.

Sannah,

But that will show how weak I really am, and they'll just think less of me then.

Sannah,

I don't think talking about it is going to change anything. All I want to know is, Why did I have to live this life? What did I do to deserve this?

I just want a break from everything, including my mind.

Jay, you never deserved any of this. It wasn't your fault which mother you got. Talking about it will help a lot. It will help you to understand what happened to you and this understanding is priceless. I don't mean understanding what your mother did to you. I mean understanding what she did, did to you (how it affected you). When you understand all of this you will understand what you need to learn or change.
