Let's say that you have a tool that you habitually cut with.
If you are attempting to control cutting, do you throw it away or keep it? The reason to throw it away is to remove temptation. The reason to keep it is that if you cut with an unfamiliar tool, you are more likely to do serious damage. In fact, the times you have hurt yourself most (and inadvertently) is by impulsively cutting with something unfamiliar when your accustomed tool is not at hand. So, what should one do? Throw it away, or keep it (just in case). Thanks for any opinions. |

Healing doesn't occur in a vacuum. What else are you doing to heal so that you don't need this coping mechanism?

I would throw it away most probably. It would have some symbolic meaning to me or something, I don't know, just seems like the right thing to do.

I think it may vary for different people. I tried throwing my blade away which led to burns and when I got another blade and threw that one away I almost overdosed. As horrible as this sounds I just keep it around now for comfort sake. I haven't cut with it but I know where it is.
I'm not sure what to do in your case. You really would have to think about it . If your going to throw the device out maybe make sure you try and stay round people a bit more or make some calls or go for some nice walks. Try and keep yourself occupied Good luck ![]() Carrie xo |

Thank you all for your responses.
This is a little hard for me right now, and I don't feel able to explore this more at this time. But I did want to acknowledge that I read your answers, and I thank you for them. |

i tried getting rid of the box cutter i usually use, ended up finding a new one from my previous warehouse job. i flipped the blade to the fresh side in case something from work was on it...
and i ended up cutting way too deep because it was unfamiliar. so i say keep what you're used to.

If you choose to keep it around then, Hide it from yourself (Make it hard to find, and when you do, make it hard to get too) At least that's an Idea, and I think I'll try it myself.

I use this small pair of scissors, and I don't think I would throw it away. There are these huge scissors that I have been so tempted to use, so basically if I throw it away I will advert to using the larger scissors.

I have the same trouble. Only i want to get rid of my razor so that i don't cut myself. but if it's gone, then i'll want to cut myself more in which case i'll overdose again.
