I thought we needed a thread like this one.

I haven't cut since May of 2009! I was able to stop with the help of DBT and the fact that I don't want anymore scars. I guess I do SI in the form of anorexia, but it's not the same as cutting to me.

Post your victories in here!
Thanks for this!

Yay! Congratulations!

I went 6 months without SI but started again last week thanks to alot of pretty messed up stuff going on.
I'm thinking about stopping again, but I don't know if I want to. I should, and it wouldn't be too hard to at this point, but still...

Anyway, YAY!

LOL! 6 months is 6 months and you should be proud! You can stop again when the time is right.

Whoo-hoo, a whole year! Maybe you can talk to your doctor/therapist/pdoc about why you end up harming yourself once you reach the 1 year. I am sure that there is a reason.

I went 6 years without SI along with quitting the "over-medicating" (inspired by the birth of my daughter) but then last September my brother was violently taken from this earth, which led to me "relapsing" in October. Swore I would never again, but then 2weeks ago, I "slipped up" my dad passed away recently too, life is just very confusing and difficult right now

I'm DETERMINED TO NOT "RELAPSE" AGAIN! I was very well behaved for a LONG time!!!
I am proud of everybody here that is trying to make a positive change, I know it's not easy,I'm sure this forum will assist us...

Maxime
Thanks so much for starting this!

I like this thread idea!
I went over a year without SI, but have had two slip-ups since being in the hospital, the most recent being yesterday. I am determined to take it day by day, and being proud of each day that I go without hurting myself.
Thanks for this!

I like DBT. I am actually going to go through the programme again because when I did it the last time I was having crisis after crisis and I didn't manage to practice everything we wre taught. I feel like a loser having to go through it again, but what can you do?

Thank you for this thread! Such a good idea

I have not cut since November 2009.
I have self harmed in minor ways (bruising, acting a bit recklessly) a couple of times since then, but I regard them as slip-ups. Cutting was always the big thing for me, so I think I'm making progress.

Congrats everyone on your progress!

Don't forget the DBT Assumptions:
People are dong the best they can
people want to improve
people need to do better, try harder, and be more motivated to change
people may not have caused all of their own problems, but they have to solve them anyways
the lives of suicidal and depressed adolescents are painful as they are currently being lived
People must learn new behaviors in all important situations in their lives
There is no absolute truth
People and their families should take things in a well meaning way rather than assuming the worst
People cannot fail in DBT

I love this thread too!
I'm not even sure how long it's been since I last SI'd really.
Probably about 2 months straight or so..probably 3 (and here's to many more!)? I'm not sure, but I'm sure it's sometime this year! Lol, I just want SI out of my head. It's too damaging to me.

Congrats to all who's stopped SI! You are truly troopers!!!

I am still SI free but the feelings to cut are really strong. I hope I don't give in. I can't give it.

Thank you for this thread! It's very inspiring to those of us struggling to quit! I'm roughly a month SI free! Shooting for 2 months, then 3 months...I want this part of my life out of my life for good!

All,

Nice idea on a thread.

I've gone so many different lengths without SI.

At one point I went around 7 months, another time it was around a year, I think. There was the time I made it 164 days I think, and another around 90. ATM I'm at 36, which I'm proud of considering what I've been through lately and how hard I've struggled.

It's thanks to the people close to me that I've gotten this far. I don't want to be selfish. Hurting myself, will hurt them too, and it's very easy to forget. I personally think it's one of the best reasons to stop. If you care at all about the people around you, don't put them through what you go through, it isn't fair. Well, it's my view anyway.

Peace out everyone, stay safe and stay free.

Regards,
Akuma

I went over 11 months without cutting, between May 12, 2009 and April 23, 2010. I went back to the old ways throughout April and May this year, kind of stopped for a month or so, and cut again once on June 23. I heal pretty fast though - they aren't deep cuts. The April cuts have already disappeared completely. I don't think I think I will keep going on and off for the rest of my life. I don't think I really want to stop anyway.

It's been 2 months since I last SI'd. The only thing that stops me is my mom. I can't hurt her anymore than I have..
