I'm trying really hard to stop... I've SI free for almost a month. Which is great progress considering I used to SI at least twice a week. I have done it on my hands, legs, chest, feet etc. But I have always done it on my arms.

Yes, I went through that when I first started therapy.

As to where I used to cut (haven't in about 16 months)... I started out with my arms (both left and right) from the back of my hands up to my shoulders, moved to my thighs when friends started questioning me. When I cut my arms, I did the inside and outside though, not quite sure why. Most of my scars are contained to my thighs, but I've also cut my shins, stomach, chest, and hips. I found when I smoked cigarettes (15mons without!) the urge to burn myself was waaaaay too strong, and I've got some nice round scars on my legs and arms.

Therapy has helped quite a bit, but I don't know if I'll ever be able to completely stop even though I try mightily.

Yep, when it comes up in therapy it tends to get worse...but it usually comes up in therapy if it has become an issue in my life again so it's kind of a catch-22 thing.
As for where, I have burns up and down both arms and on the backs of my hands, and around my ankle; and I have scars from my scalp to my feet from other forms of SI including cutting. I had never heard of SI when I started, and the relief was so huge and I was so disconnected from everything I never gave the scars a thought or cared about them or what people might think if they saw them. Now I am covered with them, and am so ashamed of them and hide myself even from my children just so they don't see them. Although since I became more aware of the scars I have concentrated on my left upper arm, so while most of the area is scarred it is contained to the one area. And I rarely SI now; intense CBT really helped.

i cut on my arms mostly. i like to make long cuts that stretch from my upper arm to my elbow. i also derive strength from my cuts. have you tried using a red marker or fake blood and a scratch instead of cutting. i have also heard that the butterfly project is helpful, maybe give that a try

I put cigarettes out on my arms, I have many round scars from them, mainly on my left arm.

depends......
it depends on what I want to accomplish. If I wanna inflict harm, I'll bite myself until I bruise. But if I wanna just feel pain and not get caught, I hurt the tummy. The tummy is my favorite place to SI cuz I can do it without anyone knowing. Plus, I hate the tummy, so it feels good to hurt a place I hate.

Thanks so much, Sam! I didn't know about the butterfly project so I looked it up. Now I have a butterfly on my arm. I don't know what to name it though!

I've only SI'd a few times, always while in mixed states. I've cut, burned, and scratched my wrists and forearms, and I bit both hands once (the left because I was agitated, the right because I wanted symmetry).

I haven't self-harmed in a while but I used to cut at my upper right hand arm. The scars are still noticeable but I kinda think of them as reminders of my painful past and how I was able to overcome my troubles. :]

I am left handed. I started out on my right forearm, then after a few years I moved down to my right wrist. First horizontally then eventually vertically. I wanted to minimize my scars so I'd cut the same spot on my right wrist over and over. I've lost count well into the 100's if not 1000's of times. So now that wrist is all scar tissue and sunken in. My entire right arm is covered though. I've also cut on my thighs, pubic area (only once) and my chest. But I like the danger and feeling I get when I cut my wrist. I'd advise against it though. If you could see a picture of it.... you'd know why. Nearly 11 years going over the same spot doesn't make for a pretty picture. All the nerves are dead there so I feel nothing, which doesn't help the fact that I dissassociate when I SI.

I cut my fingers mostly, on either side of them where there are small arteries so you get lots of blood.

That isn't a recomendation just what I normally do and why I do it.

I used to self harm on my legs, as I never showed them to anyone and always wore long pants. . . And after getting out the crisis center, I moved to my hip where no one checked. And I've now been self injury free for a little over six months.

Legs - top to bottom, but now try to avoid the bottom parts of my legs as I sometimes like to at least wear shorts. Still scars there though :|

Wrist, until my watch proved to be too small to cover all the scars. Then I stopped for more than half a year but now I'm cutting again, this time on my waist, so my underwear can cover everything, especially when I change for gym class and stuff
