for those who cutt.. i have an idea that might help you it sure helps me....... how bout when u feel the urge to cutt get a pen a paper and write down ur feelings.. like me i write poems when i feel down and know that they are bad enough to want to cutt......... i havent cutt in almost 6 months........ if u write when u feel the urge .. after a while of wrtiing the urges of wanting to cutt is not there but the urge to write is........... maybe this will help you.... and i hope it does,....... becasue while cutting is a quick release in the long run it doesnt help anything but if u write ur feelings down it helps clear ur mind and soul and it doesnt scare you all up

That's a good one, especially if you have the presence of mind to be able to sit down and write.

Thanks for the suggestion, I haven't cut for a little over a year but still get reaally bad urges and sometimes write poetry, maybe I will try to use that coping technique more. I resorted to an ice cube the other week but felt shameful for even doing that. I can't imagine feeling very shameful of writing my pain out.

Thank you

I try to write out my anger or sadness, whatever it is that makes me want to cut. It's somewhere to put some of the energy that's inside of me. I share these with my T sometimes, to let her know how much pain or anger I have. (But, sometimes it just doesn't show it the way blood does. I'm doing good though, it's been almost 2 months!)

Drawing/other types of art might help too, if one is not a writer/poet?

I agree with you paper always listens!. One other thing that helps me when I wanna hurt myself is to crochet. You can start out with yarn and an "I" hook just making a basic chain like thing then work your way up. It is fun and adictting and I have not been trying to cut or thinking about it lately! i guess you could say I traded my scissors for an crochet hook! an idea that helps me Sarah
